I inherited a few M6348 switches that contained various ISCSi connections. Within one of my M6348's I have 48 ports (32 internal/16 external). Now, on the external, several ports are occupied by ethernet connections to a SAN. Some of these ports are showing green lights and some are not. Now, within the M6348 command line I noticed the previous network engineer configured the external ports with spanning-tree portfast. My question is regarding the spanning-tree execution within the switch. Many of the ports are labeled appropriately singifiying FWD status. While many others show a DISABLED state and no COST displayed. Does the STP algorithm determine what the Sts/Role is based on the cost/priority etc...? Or does the user have to configure each port with the appropriate Sts/Role?
Thanks!
