VLANs into PC5548 - is L3 switch required?

Hello fellow networkers,

We have 4 PC 5348s and several 54xx L2 switches used for desktops, printers, wireless APs, servers, etc -- with no thought or reason as to what is connected to any particular switch -- grew over time like many companies.

Due to security audit, we now will have to segregate data traffic. desktops, wireless etc and implement vLANs.

We have 2 PC 5548s recently purchased to vlan the servers with a teamed connection  the other cascading switches which will run desktops, warehouse, printers etc. We have been told the 5548s also support some L3 functionality, but from reading the specs, it appears they don't have any L3 routing functions

Simple question:

Can the servers (on 3 vLANs) +  1 connection to other switches, be able to communicate with each other on the 5548s or will we need to have a L3 switch?
(Our thoughts were all ports might be able to communicate if they also shared the same additional vlan)

Thanks in advance for your help

Bill
