I require the use of dcbx with my M1000e as I have an internal M4110s Equallogics, and am using an ESXi cluster to access it. This has not been a problem in the pas, but right now it is a real issue.
I paid for remote configuration consultation, and during that session it was determined that my config was valid, but the DCBX Operational Status is Disabled on the internal ports connected to the 3 servers in the ESXi cluster. These are DELL m630s latest generation with Broadcom 10G nics configured NPAR.
I have been swapping emails with the remote consultation engineer, and he assures me he has escalated the issue, and he asked me to install and run Lasso. I did as he asked and sent the Lasso log. He came back with this:
enable rstp - then run lasso again.
My design does not involve loops. I have stacked MXL switches with port channels connecting to everything. There are no loops. I kickd up rstp and immediately was disconnected from my stack on the vlan I was using. This was because STP decided to block the port channels between the switches on my VLAN. So much for RSTP. I don't need it and do not want to run it. Also it is not a pre-requisite for DCBX. In fact it is entirely unrelated to DCBX. Is Marc just toying with me now?
Anyway I want to throw this one out there. My MXL stack is running the latest firmware 9.10, and I am happy to upload condfigs, or the lasso logs. I am posting here because I am currently in Africa, and DELL classifies this as a Emerging Country, and therefore offers "parts only" warranty, and will not support me. I thought by purchasing that expensive remote configuration service I would be covered. Well it seems I am not. I am really in a spot here. Please help.
