We have several dell power connect switches on our network and I have a question about how to change the syslog formatting.
Our syslog server sorts our messages based on the hostaname portion of the syslog message. Unfortunately the dell switches send this field as x.x.x.x-1 (where x.x.x.x is the IP address).
As this is clearly not a proper value for hostaname (RFC5424 states FQDN, static IP, hostname, dynamic IP address or NIL), how can I change this to a valid value?
I have spent a bunch of time trying to get my syslog server to modify the message but I feel that this should be done on the switch.
