Connection between two switches connected by L2 layer link is not functional

As a part of my network, I have two switches PowerConnect 6248P connected in trunk mode with several VLANs defined, including one for workstation and one for voice. These two switches are connected with a regular patch cord.

I have to move urgently one switch in another building, I already have a L2 link between the 2 IT rooms (leased line from telco operator). When I connect the two switches using this L2 link, keeping the same configuration on the two switches, the network is not functional anymore. The desktops and phones (all with fixed IPs) connected to the switch that was moved cannot connect to the network.

When inspecting the network traffic, on a desktop connected to the moved switch, we see ARP requests that don't get answers. I had two network engineers working on the issue, and they are puzzled by the fact it doesn't work.

Any idea of where to look ? I don't have enough time to deploy a L3 routing connection between the two locations, which is the next step, but I really need to make this temporary solution work.

Thanks,

Vincent
