Powerconnect 6248 and sonicwall router TZ300

$

I have a simple network for a retail shop. I am using a Sonicwall TZ300 router/firewall with a powerconnect 6248 switch. As well as a TP Link 8 port POE switch for my wifi nodes. The network suddenly went down yesterday and there was no connection to the internet. As trouble shooting I found that the TP-link switch communicates to the Sonic Wall fine if I unplug the 6248. When I plug in the 6248 I lose internet. I have migrated the mission critical network connections to the TP-Link we we are still in business, but I'd like to know what to do with the 6248. It was working fine prior. It is a used switch and I don't know how to access it's management features. It powers up fine.

Any help is appreciated.

IP configuration assistance on PowerConnect 6248

$

Hello everyone,

I inherited a pair of stacked PC 6248 switches. These two switches are active and in production. I am not near these switches as there are located in another state at one of our other company locations. I have no way of connecting to these switches remotely except by a putty session I currently have running via a serial connection from a laptop I'm remotely connected to. There is a site to site VPN from the office I reside in and this location where these two switches reside. I can access any other device on this remote network accept for this switch stack. I would like to access these switches remotely via putty by accessing them via their IP address on the Data Vlan that has been setup which is VLAN 10. I need assistance in doing this. I have attached a copy of the running config as I have made a few changes but still am unable to access these two switches.

I took a portion of the config and copied it below. The text in blue is what was originally configured on the stack. The text in BOLD red is some commands I have added. So the problem I am having is after adding the commands I thought I needed I still cannot access this switch stack locally on that network or remotely via the site to site VPN. For example ( I try to ping the switch stack IP 192.245.134.1 from our firewall which is on the same network with an IP of 192.245.134.254) or I try to ping from the switch stack in reverse from its IP on VLAN10 of 192.245.134.1 over to the firewall 192.245.134.254 and I still cannot. I have tried to ping this switch stack on it's IP of 192.245.134.1 from other workstations which are all on the same 192.245.134.x network and I still cannot. I am not too versed with this type of setup and I am obviously missing something. Can someone let me know what commands I am missing please? Below is additional information on the setup of the network and a portion of the running config.

IP network scheme for all devices (workstations/servers/printers/firewall etc.) is the following.

IP: 192.245.134.x

Mask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: 192.245.134.254

* IP addresses on this switch network are the following.

192.168.134.1 = This IP is on the default VLAN 1

192.245.134.1 = This is the IP address in on VLAN 10. I have assigned this IP to this stack.

* IP route on this switch "ip route 192.245.134.0 255.255.255.0 192.245.134.254"

192.245.134.254 = This is the firewall on the network that I would like this switch stack to send all traffic to. This firewall is the gateway for the entire network.

Hi

I have a Dell m1000e chasis and a1/a2 has poweconnect m6220s. The internal ports 1-16 works and active. But when I plugged the cable on port 17-20 there is not light and show interfaces status says Link down or inactive. I verified the cable is working. Any ideas?

"show interfaces status" says:

--

Gi1/0/17                              N/A     Unknown  Auto  Down   Inactive

---

"sh run" says

interface Gi1/0/17

Thanks

Changing from /24 to /16 on a PowerConnect 5548p

Currently, the default VLAN on my switch is 10.1.1.0 /24. (it is currently the only VLAN)

I want to change it to 10.1.0.0 /16. Is there a way to do this without resetting the config to defaults and starting over?

Thanks!

Trouble configuring a powerconnect 5548. No console

Hello,

So I've inherit a powerconnect 5548P that I'm trying to setup but I can't get it to work.

When I first plugged it I remember it was assigned an IP and I was able to reach the web interface.

Now I'm trying to set the admin password via CLI but the problem I'm having is that there is no console prompt, only ">" and the only command I have are either debug or help. I can no longuer reach the web UI either.

Here are the boot logs

I've also downloaded and installed the newest firmware using XMODEM but still....

I know my serial cable and terminal are good because I configured a 2248 before.

I've tried a lot of things so far but nothing seems to work.

Any ideas ? I hope my switch is not bricked :(

Thanks

New MXL pair, one stack port flapping

We recently got a brand new M1000e with dual MXL switches in it, after cancelling the bare metal provisioning all I did was attempt to stack the two on the built in 40gb ports by using the "stack-unit 0 stack-group 0" and "stack-unit 0 stack-group 1" commands, saving and reloading both switches and connecting the ports with 40gb cables as directed in the guides online. However, every minute or sometimes more I get the following and i'm not sure where to look. I've already tried a wipe and factory reset several times, perhaps it's a hardware issue?

X-Series DHCP Server lease limits

I can't find anywhere in the documentation the maximum number of addresses that the built-in DHCP server can lease. I know on some Dell switches it's very small (like only 256 address on the N-series). I am able to create a pool with over 8000+ address, but I don't want to start using it and then find out later that I can't actually use that many addresses.

Potential memory issue ?

Good morning,

I am seeing the following issue in the logs of a stacked pair of  N4064p switches running firmware 6.1.1.7

broad_hpc_drv.c(4362) 465509 %% _soc_xgs3_mem_dma: FP_TCAM.ipipe0 failed(NAK)

I have seen this post mentioning a potential memory issue with the switch, can I get confirmation of this a s a likely root cause ?

X1018 - Can not ping or route with VLAN 2

$

Hi everyone,

i have some issues with the configuration of the X1018 for routing between two new VLAN's.

So far i have set up 2 VLAN's in different subnets 172.x.x.x and 192.x.x.x. I activated the ip routing on the switch an it is partly working.

When i set my client to the networt 192.x.x.x (VLAN 1) i can acces the switch and us it as a gateway to reach my VLAN2 (172.x.x.x) .

Now about my issue. When i set my client to VLAN2 (172.x.x.x) i can reach the other clients from that network but nothing else. I can't reach or ping the switch on the designated adress. I guess that is the reason why i cannot use it as a gateway to reach the other VLAN.

Any advise? Help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks - Fabian

Hi!  While trying to reset to factory defaults I did "erase flash all" and hosed the switch!  Any way to recover?  The indicator light on the front is red and the console does not work!

Routing Between VLAN's not fully working - N3024

I'm new to configuring Dell switches and I'm having an issue with routed VLANs.

There are several VLANs on this switch, but I'll isolate the problem to 2 of them for simplicty.

VLAN 300 - 10.10.0.0/25

VLAN 301 - 10.10.0.128/26

Both sharing a single interface going to an ESXi host. VM's on this host with the following network config:

Host 1 10.10.0.45 255.255.255.128 10.10.0.1 - Gets through the firewall, can ping any other hosts on the 10.10.0.0/25 network, and can ping hosts on the 10.10.0.128/26 network

Host 2 10.10.0.140 255.255.255.192 10.10.0.130 - Can ping any other hosts on the 10.10.0.128/26 network, but cannot reach the 10.10.0.0/25 or external network (which is using 10.10.0.1 as the default gateway).

I'm currently focused on just ports 4-6, I've also tried them as switchport mode general with switchport general allowed vlan add 300-303,305-307 tagged as the allowed vlans, and I see the exact same results. My gut is telling me there must be some issue with the gateway settings on these higher VLANs because they can be pinged, but cannot ping. I currently have the gateway address on my hosts on the 10.10.0.128 network set to 10.10.0.130, which is the IP address I have given to the VLAN interface for that VLAN.

PowerConnect 2848 - Multiple VLAN on 1 port not working

$

Hello everyone.

I have a Dell PowerConnect 2848.  My Router is a Netgear SRX5308. In the router, I have created multiple VLANs (VLAN ID 10 and 20) and want to pass that over to the ESXi server. If I connect the ESXi server directly to the router, everything works as expected. My VMs are picking up correct VLAN based on the ESXi settings.

I need the 2848 in between as I need to add more devices and additional servers that have specific VLAN.

Currently, I am using port 25 for the 2848 switch.

I have put the switch in Managed mode.

In Switch -> VLAN -> VLAN Membership, I created VLAN ID 10 and 20.

I select VLAN 10, and put T on port 25.

I select VLAN 20, and put T on port 25.  (I also tried putting a U on them as well, just to try, but did not work)

But my the VM are not able to reach DHCP on the router.

Spanning Tree is enabled.

I am obviously missing something...

I have already spent last week banging my head on this but have not been able to pass the traffic along.

Please help!!!!

Microsoft NLB on N4000 switches

Hi, I think I know the answer to this, but is there a work around to use NLB in multicast mode on N4000 switches?

We have multicast setup at one site using S6000 switches and had hoped to replicate at a remote site.

But this uses N4000 switches.

From the documentation it sounds fairly clear.

Dell Networking N-Series switches support Microsoft Network Load

Balancing (NLB) in unicast mode only.

Dell PowerConnect 5424 - %ARP-E-ARPTBL: ARP Table Overflow

$
0
0

The switch is getting this message " %ARP-E-ARPTBL: ARP Table Overflow" recorded in the logs every 30 seconds or so for the last day or so. Clearing the arp-cache gets rid of the message for a few minutes until it starts up again. I changed the arp timeout to 3600 from the default 60000 but no change.

The switch is running:

SW version    2.0.0.46 ( date  14-Apr-2011 time  13:10:53 )
Boot version    2.0.0.0 ( date  12-Nov-2008 time  12:56:52 )
HW version    00.00.02

This switch is lagged to the main core 6248 (the default gateway for our internal network). The switch is also connected to our firewalls (setup in active/passive mode and is the gateway to all non-internal networks) and to a cisco 2951 which handles traffic to a sister company in another city over a MPLS circuit. There are separate vlans so that traffic from the cisco must go to the firewalls and then to the LAG to main core and visa versa.

How can I prevent these messages from appearing? Or is this nothing to worry about?

Configs can be provided.

Thanks.
