Force10 S4820T Fiber Gbic is not working

One of our clients bought 2 of these switches. Now Dell sent a fiber splitter with a 40GB GBIC. See pictures below.

https://postimg.org/image/a50l09js9/

https://postimg.org/image/iojyy0s4p/

Now I connect both GBICS and connect both splitters one in each Switch and then I use A fiber female adapter to test connectivity

http://www.cablestogo.com/product-images/27098/600/27098a.jpg

And nothing happens. I already set the no shutdown command in both switches but is not working-

I am not sure If I need to do something else to get these GBICS online.

Dell Powerconnect 5548P firmware upgrade

Hi,

I am trying to make space on the flash for the new firmware. This is the output of the "dir" command:

Management ACLs on PowerConnect 8000 vs N4000 Series

$

I have two switches doing layer-3 routing.  One is an N4064F and the other a stacked pair of 8024Fs.  I am trying to block all in-band managment traffic on all VLANs and just use the OOB interfaces for web/CLI management traffic.  If I do something like this:

management access-list Default

deny vlan 1001 service any priority 1

deny vlan 1002 service any priority 2

deny vlan etc...

exit

management access-class Default

It works fine on the N4064F.  DNS and SMTP traffic coming from the switch still works from the OOB interface.  If I do the same thing on the 8024F it blocks DNS and SMTP traffice (and possibly others) while allowing telnet, SSH, HTTP, and HTTPS traffic to the OOB interface.  That suggests that the blocked traffic isn't flowing from the OOB interface, but rather from an in-band one.  Any thoughts?

Switch can't transfer file to tftp server

Dell N-3048P switch setup with a management vlan and a default gateway.  Trying to copy the running or startup config, " copy run config tftp://x.x.x.x/filename" and failed.

There's connectivity between the switch and the server (verified with ping source ip from management vlan).  UDP por 69 is opened on the firewall.  I don't see tftp traffic hitting the firwall (counter 0 traffic) when I initiate tftp from the switch.

Difficult on trunking VLANs from 6248 to N1548P

Hi guys, sorry for the noob post but you are my last hope:

Here is the scenario:

On the Head office I have a Dell PC 6248 with some VLANs and a firewall connected to it doing all the routing.

Now we are opening a branch office, there we have two N1548P and the main office connects to the branch office using a private cloud in bridge mode so there is no need aditional configuration on the uplink.

In this branch office I want to have three VLANs, so:

1- On the 6248 the port used to uplink to the branch office is the 1/g2
2- On the N1548P #1 the port used to uplink with the head office is the 1/g2
3- Between the two N1548P the port g45 is used on both to uplink between them.
4- On the 6248 the firewall is connected to the 1/g9 port
5- The firewall is distributing DHCP for those VLANs

Here my config:

6248

configure

interface Gi1/0/45
switchport mode general
switchport general allowed vlan add 10,20,30 tagged
exit

Now the problem is, if I connect a PC on either port Gi1/0/10 I don't get IP address within the respective VLAN. I tried adding ip address to VLANs on each switch but didn't solve so I am lost.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

PowerConnect 5500 Series HDMI Stacking Cables - Difficulty Sourcing/Buying

$

Hi everyone,

I'm in a bit of a spot, as I need to add a PC5524P into a stack of 5548's, but Dell no longer seems to sell the HDMI stacking cable (I was in a chat session for over an hour verifying that...).  Ebay isn't showing anything with my searches, so I'm wondering what my options are at this point.  3rd party cables may be my only choice, but I've read several accounts of those being either flakey or slow, so I'm leery of just plugging something in.

I'm in the middle of the project, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

VLAN and routing help please

$

We had a switch with just two vlans ( 1 and 2 ) that didn't need routing.

Now I need to add a third vlan ( 1033 ) for a new connection which will need routing enabled between 1 and 1033.

I am having a few probs though. I don't know if I should have general or trunk ports.

Port 1/g9 links to a different subnet ( 10.200.200.0/24 )and port 1/g10 ( device is 192.168.10.189 ) needs access to both 1 and 1033 vlans.

I have moved the management vlan to 99 to enable routing on vlan 1.

My computer is on 192.168.10.0 subnet and when I enable the below config I lose connection to the device on port 1/g10 but I can still ping the vlan 1 interface - 192.168.10.195.

I can also ping the vlan 1033 interface but I had to add a static route to my computer.

If I pass through this switch shouldn't I be able to ping these devices without adding static routes on my computer?

I hope this makes some kind of sense.

As mentioned, config is below and any configuration tips are appreciated.

Thanks

Rate limiting on Dell N2048 Switch

$

Based on the user guide, ACLs can provide ingress traffic rate limiting, while egress ACLs support traffic shaping. When I do:

# ip access-list test
# permit every rate-limit 500000 128
# exit
# interface xx
# ip access-group test in 10

I get only:

Upload: 12.85 Mbit/s

vs 500Mbit/s

Any idea how to fix?

N3048 VLANs connected to non Dell switches?

$

Firstly, thanks for reading.

I'm doing some test configuration to move our network away from a flat network to one that uses VLANs. I've got a N3048 setup with a test DHCP server and I've created two subnets and associated VLANS - 192.168.28.1 (VLAN 28) and 192.168.32.1 (VLAN 32). Our regular network uses the 10.10.0.0 range, so my test DHCP server has an address of 10.10.0.2 and also issues addresses in the 10.10.0.0 range.

I've got the routing setup on the switch and everything seems to be working fine. If a plug a test PC into a VLAN access port I get a DHCP address in the correct range and I can ping devices on other VLANs.

The IP address of the default VLAN is in the 10.10.0.0 range and devices plugged into ports that are not configured for the other VLANs get a DHCP address in the 10.10.0.0 range. This is great, as I want to slowly introduce VLANs to my network.

However, I'm having trouble getting this to work when I plug another switch into my N3048. The majority of switches on our network are non-Dell; mainly D-Link and Netgear. So, I've setup a test Netgear switch and configured it as follows:

Port 1 - Untagged VLAN 28
Port 2 - Untagged VLAN 32
Port 24 - Tagged VLAN 28 and 32

I've then configured a Trunk port on the N3048 and plugged port 24 from the Netgear into it.

However, with a PC plugged into any port on the Netgear switch I always get a DHCP address in the 10.10.0.0 range, rather than one for the VLAN? I've tried setting the port on the N3048 as a General port, but that doesn't work either. It seems that the default VLAN 1 is alway dominant.

Any advice on what I do now?

Many thanks for reading this far, and hopefully replying.

Lost newbie: My switch won't switch, M6220.

Hi,

I'm new to Dell's products. I just bough a used M1000e with M610 blades to train on but I'm having a heck of a time getting the M6220 switches to do anything. I have six M6620 switches, two of them I bricked when I followed the wrong firmware update procedure. They are trying to boot a bad image, I get no console going through the CMC, and I don't know how to switch boot image back to the old one since I can't get a console. I ordered a WY835 serial cable and I'm hoping that will let me fix it.

I managed to get the other four M6220 successfully updated to firmware 5.1.10.1. However, I can't get the switches to do any switching. Using the CMC I just tried "clear config", "mode simple", and "copy running-config startup-config" and it still won't switch. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

force10 s4810 use VLAN 1

I have one of these switches. We are going to replace  the main core switch with this model. We have the VLAN 1 as the servers VLAN. We want to use the same VLAN for servers in this switch. But we cant configure an  ip address in the vlan 1. After reading  some documentation  we discover that we need to change the native VLAN to a different VLAN but one to allow the ip configuration.

My questio is. If we change the native VLAN to let say 100. I would need to configure it the Untagged vlan 1 in all the access ports? Since we dont have any VLAN in the current switch since the vlan 1 is the native VLAN in all the ports in the old switch.

Hello,

I've been handed a s4810 as a test device but i have no clue on how to configure this.

I have connection to the cli, can execute and read some settings but i'm far out of my comfort zone.

I've read that there is a http-server with smartscript, is this an option?

if someone could provide me a basic rundown on what to configure, that would be  a real help.

WHat do i need to set up:

vlans ranging from 10-19

routing to and from each vlan.

most ports will be trunk ports.

if possible i would like to enable the http-server.

Kind regards!

N3000 series stack issues

I have 7 N3000 switches in a stack.

There is 1 N3048 and 1 N3024 These to are number 6 and 7 and they are where all my servers get plugged in to.

The other 5 switches are N3048p where all clients get plugged in to.

We operate 4 VLAN's

1 - Normal Clients

2 - PCI DSS clients

3 - VOIP phones

4 - Servers

Everything is set up and seems to work fine, however every now and again there appears to be a blip, I get an email from our phone system saying it has lost connectivity to another server. All the desktop apps that connect to the phone system crash and my hyper-v machines report they have lost connection to the storage array and freeze all machines.

It appears to happen at random maybe a few times a day, but then it wont happen again for a while. I have pings running at the minute to try and find out when the connections are dropping but I cant seem to find anything in the event logs.

Is there anything I can do to try and trace down what is causing this issue? It is causing all sorts of headaches at the moment.

We also have a blade chassis which has 2x 1gb switches which are connected over 10g to the 10gb ports on the server switches. These appear to work without issue.

Thanks in advance for any help.

How do you Port Rate a single Port on N1548?

$

Hey guys,

We have recently set up some Dell N1548s and we would like to learn how to limit a port to a desired throughput/bandwidth.

For Example:

We will have a 250x250 fiber connection straight into this switch.  However we do not want each port to have access to this much bandwidth.  We would like to limit the internet traffic on a few ports to 10x10.

If i understand correctly, traffic shaping is only for the download speed and additional configuration is required for the upload?
