SSH on a PowerConnect 7024

Is there a way to disable SSH v1 on a PowerConenct 7024, while leaving SSH v2 enabled?

NSeries Console Password

I am having trouble setting a password so that when I console in through the serial cable, I am prompted with a password

I do not mean the ENABLE password which I can get working OK.

Dell X1052 has no community ports?

We want to configure a Dell X1052 switch with private VLANs. The GUI has Port Mode options for Promiscuous and Isolated ports, but not community ports. Is this a feature that is lacking in the X1052 firmware?

Cannot Console to S4048-on

I am unable to get serial console connection to this model switch.

I have tried 2 seperate switches with 2 seperate cables.

strange problem with traffic policing - PowerConnect 5548

Hi,

We're experiencing a somewhat bizarre issue. I'll try to lay it out as clearly as possible.

We have a 8-member PowerConnect 5548 stack - 4 PoE units and 4 non-PoE units. This stack is uplinked to two Cisco ISR routers - a 3900 as primary and a 2900 as secondary with HSRP configured between them. We have five Meraki WAPs connected to one of the PoE stack members, configured in bridge mode. This is a multi-tenant environment with around 70 active VLANs.

We are performing traffic policing at the router level on a per-VLAN basis by matching against ACLs and input interfaces, which allows us to apply a single policy to the switch-facing interface and the WAN-facing interface without having to apply a separate policy to every single VLAN subinterface.

Everything works fine, mostly. What isn't working correctly is the upload policing. While this may sound like a router issue which should be posted over in Cisco land, what's strange about it is that upload policing works as expected when a client connects via WiFi. It is only when a client connects physically to a switchport on any of the PowerConnect units that the upload policing does not work. If I create a SSID for a given VLAN and try there, policing works fine. Download policing works fine either way.

I certainly reserve the right to be wrong, but from what we're seeing it seems like our policing configuration at the router level is correct and there is something with the switchports here which is impacting upstream traffic. We played around with speed, duplex, and flow control settings but none made any notable difference.

Any ideas? I can provide configs at request.

Connect PowerConnect 6248 and Force10 S4810

Hi,

I have two PowerConnect 6248 Switches connected with Stacking. Now I want to connect a Force48 S4810 Switch on the same network.

Both 6248 have an SFP + module.

What is the best way to connect?

Thanks.

x1026 trunked with Cisco 3750

This is embarrassing. I have multiple Cisco switches at work and home. I have worked with Dell PowerConnects for years. However, this x1026 is kicking my piehole.

I need to setup a quad port trunk between my Cisco 3750 and the Dell x1026, so that I can pass two vlans across a trunk. Would someone please provide the settings and Cisco config to do this? I have been hitting my head against the wall for a while. All of my other cisco switches are working as intended, but this dell is killing my inner child. Also, is there a way to enable a more extensive console? I bought these switches on accident and am now stuck wit them.

N3024P Combo port SFP connected to SFP port on N2024P comes up in D-DOWN state after boot;

We have 5 N-series switches across various data rooms at one of our sites.  In the main server room we have an N3024P (two switches come into the two SFP ports, Te1/0/1 and Te1/0/2), and an N2024P (one switch comes into its Te1/0/2).  We wanted to connect these two server room switches via fibre; we need as many of the copper ports as are available.  So we connected N3024P-Gi1/0/24 to N2024P-Te1/0/1; set the speed of Te1/0/1 to 1000; and brought up both ports.  Everything seems to be working fine.

However, upon a reboot of the N3024P, its Gi1/0/24 goes into D-DOWN state.  If I execute 'no shutdown' on the interface everything is fine.

I have searched for a solution, and have tried the suggestions regarding disabling spanning-tree and explicitly enabled portfast.  Neither seems to work.

For the time being we have gone for a copper port uplink, but I'd like to get to the bottom of this issue.

Any guidance would be most appreciated.

advTHANKSance.

Dell PowerConnect M6220 Blade Switch - Remove Switch From Stack

Hello, Everyone.

We have 3 Dell PowerEdge M1000e Chassis that each have four M6220 switches in them (A1, A2, B1, & B2). Each set of switches is stacked amongst the 3 chassis creating a stacking loop (A1 to A1 to A1 and back; B1 to B1 to B1 and back; etc). Our server team has decided to remove one chassis from the cluster.

The uplinks from the switches to top-of-rack are provided by LAGs that are connected to unit 1 and unit 3. The VMs and all network connections (other than the stack cables) have been migrated off of unit 2. Unit 1 and 3 are housing all of it now.

What are the steps required to remove unit 2 from the stack?

I took the switch out of the stack.  It currently shows as unassigned in stack management.

When I connect the second stack cable between unit 1 & 3, the stack starts flapping until I remove the second cable.

Trunk between 6248 and 8132

Hi,

I have a trunk port between 6248 and 8132 with general mode. Please see the interface configuration below:

6248:
interface ethernet 1/xg1
description 'xxxxx'
switchport mode general
switchport general allowed vlan add 3-6,8 tagged
switchport general allowed vlan add 1 tagged
exit

8132:
interface Te1/0/9
description 'xxxxxx'
switchport mode general
switchport general allowed vlan add 3-6,8 tagged
switchport general allowed vlan add 1 tagged
exit

However, the link state on 8132 is down:

Port      Name                       Duplex Speed      Neg MTU   Admin State Link State
--------- --------------------------- ------      -------         ----   -----         -----             -----
Te1/0/9 xxxxxx                      N/A       Unknown Auto 1518         Up            Down

On 6248, the link is up:

Port   Type                           Duplex Speed    Neg   Admin State Link State
----- ------------------------------  ------     -------      ----          -----           -----
1/xg1 10G - Level                 Full      10000    Auto        Up             Up

Any suggestion what is wrong here? Thanks for your help!

Connecting Cisco 7937 conference station to Dell 5524P

I am trying to connect a Cisco 7937 Conference phone to a Dell 5524P.  It gets power but I cannot get the phone to register.  When I plug it into a cisco Switch on the same network,  it works fine.

I know I am missing something simple as other cisco phone models register just fine on the same switch.

Any Ideas?

Open Manage Network Management / stacked switches

Hi,

Two questions.

1. I have a stack with 2*N3048. I can see the details of the master switch (service tag, serial ...), but not for the other switch. Where can I find them ?

2. How configure monitor to have an alert when a stack member is down ?

Thanks for your help !

internet speed powerconnect 2724

We recently upgraded our internet service through Comcast.  When my computer is connected directly to the modem, and nothing else is connected to the modem, we get full-speed upload and download as advertised (30 down, 10 up).  When the computer is connected to the modem via Ethernet cable through our Powerconnect 2724, the speed is generally greatly reduced, but only intermittently.  The powerconnect is not a new device by any means.  Questions that arise include:

  • is the device working correctly?
  • Do powerconnect switches wear out over time?
  • Is there a way we should be managing the device?

The switch had been set to 'unmanaged mode' for all these years (warranty expired in 2009, so probably purchased in 2008).  I have enabled the 'managed mode' in an effort to access the built-in software, check the firmware, etc.  The managed mode light is on, but I have not been able to access the software through my browser using the default IP address (192.168.1.2).

Comcast's answer is that we should upgrade yet again.  We don't need the higher speed, but they claim the upgrade would provide more 'bandwidth'.  I prefer not to throw money at Comcast if there is a solution that involves managing the switch to handle the current bandwidth.

We have up to 12 devices connected at once, up to 6 connected through the switch via ethernet (computers accessing the internet and each other), and the remaining connected wirelessly to the modem/router (generally phones and a wireless printer).

I'm not a network guy.  Any input/insight would be helpful.

How to disable TFTP from Dell switch

I have a 3048 and a couple 4810s and I want to disable the TFTP function. Client and Server. Is there a way to do this via CLI configs? Note: I do not wish to block TFTP traffic I want to stop the switch from being able to use TFTP as a whole.

Problem between vlans

Hi,

I'm working with a hybrid cloud and between the two sites I have an Ethernet Line, so we can have the same IP class.

At my site, there is a Router that receives packets from the cloud with VLAN 10. Here we only have the default vlan 1.

I have two SW 6248 and I don't have access to the Router because it belongs to the ISP. I've connected the Router to 2/g1 and I've connected the 2/g2 to 1/g20.

It is possible to untag every packet coming from the router at 2/g1 and tag every packet that goes to the router at 2/g2?

I've tried a lot of combinations and nothing worked when I set the PVID different than 1 any port.

In a closed test, which I'd used a notebook directly connected with 2/g2, It worked with both ports at PVID 20. When I connect my network cable at this port, anyone can reach each other.

Another odd detail is that with no configuration, with all at Vlan 1, some machines communicate, so I realize that the router in some way is tagging and untagging. At the cloud, they assured me that all packets are tagged with VLAN 20. They have the same Router there, connected with their SW. The problem is that in only some machines it works.

Example:

Every server in the domain from Site 1 can ping a Server at Site 2

No server out of the domain from Site 1 can ping a Server at Site 2

Any Server at Site 2 can ping any Server at Site 1 if it is in the domain

No Server at Site 2 can ping a Server at Site 1 if it is out of  the domain

With tcpdump I can see that the Servers receive the packets, but can't reply.

X1026 set up

I'm having a fiddle with our system and putting in an X1026 as a test before we use more.

I've gotten it into managed mode and logged on but working through the set up wizard the final option to finnish is off the bottom of the screen on the laptop browser I use for this type of stuff.

It is the same in IE Explorer and Firefox

Is there a recommended browser  that avoids this or some other fix?

priority-flow-control mode on
priority-flow-control priority 3 no-drop

As soon as we enable priority-flow-control priority 3 no-drop i loose connectivity to alot of servers and blade chassies connected on port channels.

If i shutdown the ports, do the config all is fine. If i enable the ports same result, loosing connectivity to alt of servers. I can see spanningtree doing all sorts of things. If i disable spanningtree same issue. But then i loose connectivity with our managment switch wich is a cisco 2960 switch.

Firmware is 6.3.1.11 i see there is a new version out, but the release note only has 2 fixes and not for this.

Now another thing that happnes now is that i lost SNMP connectivity to the switch. As it won't return any snmp statistics. We monitor bandwith on the switches for our wan traffic.

Please help, as we need to get RDMA working for Storage Spaces Direct.

"Unable to submit Service Tag for a Dell PowerConnect 5548"

Attempting to lookup product support (pull warranty data/update firmware) for a Dell PowerConnect 5548 w/ an ST of HSZ40Z1 and am receiving an error that states "There is no match for that Service Tag or product ID. Please try again, auto-detect or choose from all products."

I'm confident that I am not fat-fingering the service tag in the search field as I am pasting the service tag directly from the CLI of the switch.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.
