Setting up VLAN with Dell 3548p switch

$

Good morning,

I am currently working on a project to provide the office I support with wireless connectivity that allows the users to also be able to access network folders and servers, as if they were connected to the Ethernet. We have a standalone Comcast router that we use to provide guest wi-fi access that is broadcast through our NetGear r6400 router. I would like to, if it is possible, either (a) have the netgear router's guest network configured as the VLAN and have our Cisco APs broadcast the signal throughout the office or (b) set up the Cisco WAP4410N APs to broadcast VLAN tagged packets from our Dell switches via the netgear router.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I skimmed through documentation for the Netgear router, Dell 3548p switch, and Cisco WAPs and saw that they all have some sort of VLAN configuration capabilities, but I cannot seem to properly set up the VLAN.

In a LAG configuration, in order to pass vlan traffic, the port channel should be setup in Trunk or General mode while the physical ports in access mode or both should be setup in Trunk or General mode?

Hi,

I configuring two Dell C9010 Switches, and i was wondering, a way to configure the switches as one switch.

the switches are in VLT, and using one RPM on each unit.

my goal is to avoid configuring each switch at a time, for example,

when i created my VLAN on say core1, i don't want to create again on core2, and same applies for all configs.

kindly advice.

Thanks and Regards

Can't update CPLD on member switch N2000

I'm very new to Dell switches. These particular switches were purchased and installed by an outside organization. There are 4 switches in total (N3048P, N2048P, N2024P, N2048P) and they stacked 2 of them, the 2024 & one of the 2048s, with the 2024 being the 'master'.

I was having issues connecting via SSH to these units and found that updating the firmware fixes the issue. I did the individual switches first with no issues and then the stack. The master in the stack updated completely, but the member switch (2048) will not update the CPLD to version 15. The firmware updated fine though.

The instructions say to connect to member switches individually via the console port, but, when I try, I get told that I can only connect to the master this way. What am I missing!?

Thanks!

n4064 switch reset button?

$

Hi,

might be a stupid question, but according to the

"User’s Configuration Guide Version 6.3.0.0 and Later"

there should be a reset button on the front panel, but there is none -

at least nothing that looks like a pinhole or something similar.

Since the web interface is not responding anymore, I want to reboot the switch.

Should I just remove the two power cables? Will the switch boot automatically then?

Any help is highly appreciated,

Thank you,

Henrik

Multiple Vlan Trunking between Cisco and Dell switch

$

HI All,

I am having issue with multiple vlan trunking between Cisco 3850 and Dell 7048P (code, 5.1.7.5)

There is a port channel Dot1Q trunk between both two, and this trunk is only passing vlan 1 traffic, not other vlans for some reason.

Cisco 3850 config:

interface Port-channel30
 switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,80,100,105,650
 switchport mode trunk

Dell 7048P config:

interface port-channel 30
 switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,80,100,105,650

I even created SVI interface (vlan 100) on both side and still could not ping each other via SVI interface.

Not sure if anyone here had similar issue before. Much appreciated if someone can help.

Thanks

Charles

L3 Subinterfaces on Dell Z9100

Hi Team,

While configuring the Dell Switches (Z9100, acting as a Spine switch) we need to configure the uplink ports.

We are having around 6 VRFs.

The site router (to which uplinks will connect) do not want to configure the VLANs and want to configure L3 Subinterfaces for each VRF.

We have a port channel from Dell to Site Routers on which traffic for all 6 VRFs will be required to be configured.

Do someone have configuration to create L3 subinterfaces, where each subinterface will be part of one VRF,  for the port channel.

Thanks !!

How to increase the https and ssh timeout on a Dell X1052 switch

$

Hi,

We've recently acquired a couple of Dell X1052 switches and I am looking to configure the ssh timeout.  I've seen other posts mention setting the exec-timeout, but there is no mention of how to set it in the

Dell™ Networking™ X1000
and X4000 Series Switches
User Guide

I've entered the enable and config commands, but don't see any options for ssh, http or https to set the timeout value.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul

Force10 S50 Console issue

Hello,

I have 2 Force10 S50 switches. When they were in the datacenter i was able to use the console port. However, now that they are home i want to reconfigure them for a new datacenter. The way i have it setup is USB to Serial > Serial to RJ-45> Rollover Ethernet cable. With this setup i can see output in putty but cannot type anything. If i use a straight through or a cross over it does not display anything. Can someone help me troubleshoot this. I never had so much trouble with getting a console port to respond to me. Both switches have the exact same issue so i know the switches are good. Must be my RJ-45. I've made it 3 times and no change. If i bring over a cisco switch my usb to serial and cisco cable work perfectly. I've tried the desktop and the laptop.

Thanks,

Tom

Powerconnect 3524P serial port disabled?

$

I work at an electronics recycler and we recently received a large amount of 3524P switches. Normally I end up connecting a serial cable and reset all settings to factory defaults.

Here's the catch-- every switch we received isn't giving a serial output. My guess is that they ended up disabling the console port..?

I was able to find the IP address of the switch and confirmed that the web interface was working (although, I was not able to log in because I don't have credentials)

I am by no means an expert with network switches but I have been wiping switches for about  6 months now without coming across something like this. Here are my serial settings:

Baud: 9600

Data bits: 8

Stop bits: 1

Parity: none

Flow control: none

I would love to be able to somehow re-enable console access without having the admin login. Anyone have any ideas?

Force10 MXL VLT with MSTP

$

Hello, can somebody please clarify situation with F10 MXL switches and MSTP configuration in VLT mode on them.

Didn't find clear description about situation when whole network configured in MSTP and single pair of Force10 (non ToR switches) are converting from STACK to VLT.

Major problem that we have several mstp instance and this pair of switches connecting to several of them. During implementation, suddenly we got mstp block in ports configured in vlt-peer-lag (Port-channel interfaces), we had to disable one port from each vlt port-channel interfaces to make this port working.

I understand that my description looks unclear, so please refer on topology diagram attached, links marked with red became blocked with MSTP

Route management VLAN that is connected to M1000e CMC through Force10 switch

$

I realize this involves blades and chassis configuration, but this appears to be a problem with routing through the Force10 swith so I have posted this here.

We have an M1000e deployed with Force10 switches. We have 3 networks with the following VLANs:

  • ISSNET (No VLAN): Fabric C connected via 4 port LAG to stack of Cisco 2960 switches.
  • DEVNET (VLAN14): Fabric A connected via 2 port LAG to single Cisco 2960 switch with a few physical machines connected to it.
  • MGMTNET (VLAN17): M1000e CMC connected to Cisco SF200 switch with other DRAC/iLo ports connected to it. Goal is to use some ports on fabric A connected via 2 port LAG to single Cisco SF200 switch with a few DRAC/iLo connected to it.

Note: Fabric B is the SAN/vMotion network and is not connected to the firewall or any other network.

We want to use a virtual machine as a firewall running on the M1000e to control access to MGMTNET and DEVNET from ISSNET. We were previously running the firewall as a VM on an R710 that I am trying to get rid of and would like to move the VM to the appropriate blade. The blade(s) it will run on is connected to all fabrics. For simplicity, I will use blade 16 for the example.

The firewall is working between DEVNET and ISSNET. The Force10 config for the DEVNET is:

Internal blade port

interface TenGigabitEthernet 0/16
description Internal_server_NIC
no ip address
mtu 12000
portmode hybrid
switchport
flowcontrol rx on tx off
spanning-tree rstp edge-port
no shutdown

Force10 external port connected to Cisco 2960 switch

interface TenGigabitEthernet 0/49
description VLT_LAG_member
no ip address
flowcontrol rx on tx off
!
port-channel-protocol LACP
port-channel 1 mode active
no shutdown

LAG port channel to Cisco 2960 switch

interface Port-channel 1
description PoC-1_VLT_LAG
no ip address
portmode hybrid
switchport
vlt-peer-lag port-channel 1
no shutdown

VLAN14

interface Vlan 14
description ESXi_&_vCenter
no ip address
tagged TenGigabitEthernet 0/1-29
tagged Port-channel 1
untagged TenGigabitEthernet 0/41-42,50
no shutdown

Cisco 2960

2 LAG ports are configured in trunk mode and default VLAN is set to 14 for the switch.

I thought I would just need to configure a similar setup for VLAN17, LAG port channel to Cisco SF200, and Force10 port external port to Cisco SF200 so I configured the below:

Internal blade port

interface TenGigabitEthernet 0/32
description Internal_server_NIC
no ip address
mtu 12000
portmode hybrid
switchport
flowcontrol rx on tx off
spanning-tree rstp edge-port
no shutdown

Force10 external port connected to Cisco SF200 switch

interface TenGigabitEthernet 0/52
description VLT_LAG_17_member
no ip address
flowcontrol rx on tx off
!
port-channel-protocol LACP
port-channel 17 mode active
no shutdown

LAG port channel to Cisco SF200 switch

interface Port-channel 17
description PoC-17_VLT_LAG
no ip address
portmode hybrid
switchport
vlt-peer-lag port-channel 17
no shutdown

VLAN17

interface Vlan 17
description ManagementNet
no ip address
tagged TenGigabitEthernet 0/30-32
tagged Port-channel 17
no shutdown

Cisco SF200

2 LAG ports are configured in trunk mode and default VLAN is set to 17 for the switch.

The firewall cannot connect to the Cisco SF200 switch, the chassis CMC, or the Force10 management ports. I cannot connect to the firewall from a machine connected to the Cisco SF200 switch, but I can connect to the chassis CMC and Force10 management ports.

The firewall can connect to other virtual machines on VLAN17 on the same and other blades so it doesn't appear to be a problem with the internal blade port. It seems to be a problem with the LAG connection.

I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong or if this is even possible. Since the CMC is connected to the Cisco SF200 switch, I am wondering if that is going to prevent this configuration from working. Does anyone have any ideas?
