Different Cisco model phones can't talk to each other, on PowerConnect 3548P switches?

$

We have two different style of Cisco VoIP phones in house.  The standard IP79xx models, and the lower grade SPA50x models.   The phones can ring each other, but when the receivers are picked up, a user on a 79xx phone can't hear or be heard by someone on a SPA50x phone, and vice versa.  A user calling from an IP79xx to an IP79xx works just fine, as does calling from a SPA50x to a SPA50x.

I have used the exact same hardware topology and configuration, in other locations and the only differentiating factor in my current design is that I have Cisco 3548P switches instead of the usual Cisco switches.

Does the Dell 3548P switch have a specific signature that it uses for traffic shaping of VoIP traffic on VLAN100 (voice vlan), depending on the packet signature of the VoIP calling device detected?

Dell M1000e with two MXL switches - Outage to Blades

$

Hello,

We recently purchased multiple M1000e enclosures with PowerEdge M620/M820 and two MXL switches installed in slots A1 and A2. Both MXL switches are connected to Cisco Nexus 5548 switches. We have followed configurations within below document:

http://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/shared-content/data-sheets/en/Documents/Deploying_the_Dell_Force10_MXL_on_a_Cisco_Nexus_Network_v1_1.pdf

Blades are running ESX5, all blade ports are setup as hybrid ports. During our testing we notice outage to some blades if one of the MXL switche's uplinks are down. Blades have connectivity to both A1 and A2 switches so in theory when A1 uplinks are down the blade would send traffic towards A2. But this is not happening, we have enabled beaconing feature but that also did not help.

For example if we disable A1 uplinks then we can ping it from some desktops but not from some servers. But if we disable A2 uplinks then some desktops cannot ping but some servers can. It is very weird behavior.

We are working with our account team but so far we have not found any solution. Just wondering if someone else has seen something similar.

BPDU Filtering

Hello,

Switch Model - PowerConnect 5424

SW version - 2.0.0.46

I have a problem with BPDU Filtering (Spanning-Tree)

this is my topology (attached picture), both switches working fine with STP - MST

(CISCO Switch is the - root bridge for instance 1 + 2).

-----------------------------------------

My problem appear when i connect new switch to Dell PowerConnect 5424 that is working with PVST, but the connection port configured with STP DISABLE + global configuration (spanning-tree bpdu filtering).

In this situation the Dell Switch become the root bridge for instance 1 + 2.

What can i do to block bpdu message (PVST) from the new Switch that connect to dell and working with PVST. (Attached example),

Thanks,

Trying to gain access to 3 Dell switches - 1 5212 & 2 5324

I have 1 PowerConnect 5212, & 2 5324 switches that the previous admin left no configuration information for (at least they had the IP labeled on the front). Tried reaching out to previous admin, no luck as of yet. That said, without doing a complete reset to factory defaults (thus wiping out any possible non-default configuration on these switches) can I do with these? I am pretty sure they have some vlan/etc configuration otherwise I would just wipe them. What are the default credentials for these switches & any way I can get perhaps even the userid in use on these so I can wildly try random passwords?

Thanks!

Hi Team,

Today i noticed in one of the switch is showing the below error message repeatedly. This switch is member of the stack.

Port mirror only shows received packets on a 6248

For some strange reason only received packets are being captured.  The show monitor session 1 displays the following:

Session ID   Admin Mode   Probe Port   Mirrored Port   Type
----------   ----------   ----------   -------------   -----
1            Enable       1/g19        2/g18           Rx,Tx

I connected my monitor to a different model switch and it does work.

Here are the applicable config lines:

monitor session 1 destination interface 1/g19
monitor session 1 source interface 2/g18
monitor session 1 mode

I am running version 3.3.8.2

I would like to know if others are successfully capturing packets, also.

vlan setup 6224/5448

Hi

I am planning to get colocation service from ISP and i need some advice for below simple diagram as i'm not really good in networking.

L3 switch = 6224

L2 switch = 5448

Blue vlan = management

Green vlan = KVM host. VM will use this to connect internet

I have created all three vlans but i have a few questions

1. Do i need 3 cables from L3 to L2? One for connecting two switches, other two for vlan10 & 20?

2. If i assign port 1 to vlan10 and port 2 to vlan20, under GUI 'vlan membership' page what do i set for each vlans?

3. How do i assign the /24 IPs to green vlan?

Appreciate for any help i can get :)

Thank you

Bizarre PowerConnect 3548P VoIP call connect behavior, with mixed variety of Cisco IP phones?

$

I have an isolated VoIP VLAN/subnet that I'm using for my corporate telephony but am experiencing a bizarre behavior with my network which is a mix of Cisco IP79xx phones (enterprise grade) and Cisco SPA50x phones (lower quality consumer grade.)

Both sets of phones are on the most current firmware, as are the Cisco phones, and the phones can all initiate a 'ring' to the other models.  However,  the SPA50x phones can ONLY transit/receive voice traffic to other SPA50x phones, and the IP79xx phones can ONLY transmit/receive voice traffic to other IP79xx phones.

A SPA50x phone, when picked up, can't receive or send voice to an IP79xx phone, and vice-versa.

Would this have anything to do with the OUIs defined in the 3548P firmware?   The switch is on the most current firmware (2.0.0.53) so I'm stumped why the phones can't ALL connect and tx/rx voice packets to each other?

Hi All I download v9.2.0.2 FTOS to S4820T, the QSFP+ light is green. I changed to v9.3 FTOS to S4820T, the QSFP+ light is amber. Both v9.2.0.2 and v9.3 connection is OK except the light is different. I show interface status, the connection is up and speed is 40000Mbit/s. I wonder whether the QSFP+ LED indicator is Amber on v9.3 FTOS. Thank you.

Voice Enable prevents executing Copy Port Enable?

We are trying to setup port mirroring on a Dell 5548P. The error we get is:

"Voice Enable prevents executing Copy Port Enable"

While we do have the voice vlan feature enabled on the switch, the two ports in questions have voice vlan disabled.

Mirror port:

interface gigabitethernet1/0/3
speed 100
no negotiation
description TWCUplink
traffic-shape 100000
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan remove 1-4,6-14,16-149,151-159,161-164
switchport trunk allowed vlan remove 166-4094

Monitor port:

interface gigabitethernet1/0/43
spanning-tree portfast

The commands I tried to run

# ena

# config

# interface gi 1/0/43

# port monitor gigabitethernet 1/0/3

Port gi1/0/43: Voice Enable prevents executing Copy Port Enable

Does anyone have any ideas how to get the port to mirror successfully?

Using Force10 as a default gateway?

Here's is what I am confuse with this Force10.  We currently have an internet gateway Cisco 2600 router and also a default gateway Cisco 2600 router.   My question is, if I were to get the force10 S5000 Layer 3.  Should i be able to elminate both of this Cisco router and only use the ISP connection directly to this Switch.   If a Layer 3 can route, should the Force10 able to set the default gateway on the switch as well?

Proxy-arp or local-proxy-arp??? Dell Powerconnect 6224

$

We need to enable some clients to resolve the mac adress of a server which is in another VLAN and ip address range.

I thought that adding the command ip proxy-arp to the vlan interface should do the job, but this command seems to be enabled by default according to the reference guide, after I tried to add the command it is still not shown on a show run. That was confirming my thought. While I was looking for the solution I saw another command which is not listed in de cli reference guide: ip local-proxy-arp. But since I am not sure what this command will do I am cautious to just hit the command on the interface VLAN.

How do others route their arp requests on powerconnect 6224's?

Hi All I have read the text from PCT 3500 user guide. "The Small Form Factor Plugable (SFP) ports are fiber transceivers designated as 10000 Base-SX or LX. They include TWSI (Two-Wire Serial Interface) and internal EPROM." Does anyone know PCT3524 support 1G SFP or 10G SFP+? Whether it support single mode SFP? Thanks.

PowerConnect 6200 ACLs dont seem to work

Hello,

I have a total of four 6248s two groups at different locations that are setup with VRRP + OSPF.  I tried to setup a simple ACL on one of the VLANs to permit some traffic, and block everything else, but I cannot get it to work.  I have tried a lot of combinations trying to get this working, but so far no luck.  Its just a simple ACL that should allow web/http traffic to the server 10.1.30.100, and block everything else.

The only type of ACE that seems to work are either a "deny ip any any" or "permit ip any any" if you try an ACE with a host destination and subnet mask 0.0.0.0 it just blocks everything.  Has anyone else has been having ACL problems or is it just my incompetance thats preventing me from getting the 6200 ACLs to work properly?  I didnt have this problem getting the ACL to work on our Cisco 2811 routers just when I tried on the PC6248s.

Powerconnect Switch and Cisco Routers

$

I have 4 Cisco routers connected to our Dell Powerconnect 7024. This is  a lab environment where I am trying to have each router (2 per site) act as a WAN access point for these 2 sites.

              Site 1                                                                                                                           Site 2

                                                        Router 2                                         Router 3

Client PC ------Dumb_switch                         PowerConnect                            Dumb_switch------Client PC

                                                        Router 1                                         Router 4

There are a few other Vlans on the switch with connected devices. With the current configuration, these two sites can communicate with any other 'site' connected to the switch over either route, except for each other.

The interfaces directly connected to the router are in trunk mode, as this is the only way I could get the dell to communicate with the Cisco. Ive read in other threads that general mode is usually suggested on the powerconnect, but did not have any luck with that setup.

Router 1 -----> Gi1/0/15 (vlan 10)

Router 2 ----->Gi1/0/14 (vlan 11)

Router 3 ----->Gi1/0/22 (vlan 16)

Router 4 ----->Gi1/0/23 (vlan 14)

Example: a ping from Site 1 can reach int 22 of the switch with no problem, but I cannot ping next hop to R3. Since every other device on this switch can talk to these sites I am not clear on if the issue is my config of the dell switch or on the routers. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi

i have connected two server

one has a 10G card serveurA

the other has two giga card servB

they are connected through the same switch

I have configured the servb under linux with balance-rr mode bonding

when i run iperf

servB -> servA  I got 1.7Gb/s

but when i run iperf

servA -> servB i got only 0.94 Gb/s

Is there a way i can configure my powerconnect in a similar mode than the balance-rr mode under linux. ?

Powerconnect 6224/6248 802.1X issues

Hi,

I'm running a stack of 6224/6248 switches in a windows 2008R2 environment. They are configured to control access through 802.1 (auto-mode) and to get the authentication information, including vlan assignment from my primary NPS server (RADIUS). Everything seemed to be running ok at first, but at random times, clients are dropped and are no longer able to access the network. However, when I look at the port status at that time, the port still shows up as 'authenticated'; however no packets can flow. Sometimes it helps to disable and enable the network adapter or to physically disconnect the cable. However, that is not a good solution for 100+ PCs

I've checked the NPS logs, but everything seems fine there; it indicates that users are granted access and put into the right VLAN. Looking at the remote syslog of the switch stack, I get entries like these throughout the day :
