Anyone know if there are any setting to specify traffic shaping on the Dell PowerConnect 2816 or 2824 web managed switches?

When I try to configure a stactic route in the switch I get the following. I'm wondering if the image is corrupt except I have two of this model with the same trouble.

aspswt1(config)# ip route x.x.x.x /24 x.x.x.x

a listing of the commands shows:

aspswt1(config)# ip

Hi, We have two Dell Power Connect 6224 switches and we are trying to disable a couple of ports to prevent them being active should a network cable be plugged in. What is the best way to do this?

Kind regards

SNMP Monitoring of VLANs (Some More)

I am trying to monitor traffic utilization on VLAN using SNMP. When I look at the SNMP walk, the counters for the VLANs are showing zero across the board. I've searched through the forum and found server cases of the issue, but no actual fix or even response from an employee.

Is this still a known issue with PowerConnect switches?

My Switch is a PowerConnect 2848.

What I'm getting back from SNMP:
iso.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.100000 = Counter32: 0
iso.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.100001 = Counter32: 0
iso.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.100002 = Counter32: 0
iso.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.100003 = Counter32: 0
iso.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.100004 = Counter32: 0
iso.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10.100005 = Counter32: 0

PC 6248: Getting DHCP address for wrong subnet.

I recently inherited a Dell PowerConnect 6248 which I'm not that familiar with, and I'm trying to use it as a Layer3 switch.

I have a VLAN 10 with an associated network of 10.10.10.0/24 and a VLAN 11 with an associated network of 10.10.11.0/24.

When I have statically assigned addresses on clients on ports configured for these VLANs. I can ping other subnets, and traffic is routed properly.

I also have IP helper configured globally pointing to my DHCP server, and I have DHCP scopes setup for the networks associated with VLAN 10 and 11.

When I connect a device to a port configured with VLAN 10, I receive a DHCP address in the 10.10.10.0/24 network.

However, when I connect a device to a port configured with VLAN 11, I receive a DHCP address also in the 10.10.10.0/24 when it should be in the 10.10.11.0/24 network.

Both VLANs, routes, and DHCP scopes appear to be properly configured everywhere. Again, when clients use statically assigned addresses for their appropriate VLANs and networks, traffic is routed normally. But I am getting DHCP addresses for the wrong subnet for clients connected to VLAN 11.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Multiple Locations Routing

What i know so far.

3physical locations: Location1 / Location 2 / Location3

ICMP is allowed over through the VPN/Firewall.  I can ping other devices, from Location1,  that are on the Location 2 / Location3 LANs,  just not my force10 stack

I can ping the switches locally (local LAN), but not from alternate sites. In Location1 I can ping or ssh to the Location1 Stack, But I can not Ping the Location 2 / Location3 stacks.  I have to ssh to one of the servers in the other locations to ssh or ping the Stack.

I've  never set this up before, any ideas? On the best way to do it?

Thanks,

Ron

Pwerconnect 5448, Windows Server 2008 R2

Hello from France,

One of my project for a customer is to create a secure authentification via 802.1X. I chose to use freeradius.

But the customer didn't want to integrate a linux solution.

So I switched to Microsoft Windows server 2008 R2 and the NPS. I set up two solutions

First, a NAP. The solution works without any problems.

But the second, configuring dell powerconnect  device to a authenticate via active active directory has not working. I found and tried many howtos on the web, but no one are compliant with my device.

someone have to deploy this solution with the NAP  of Microsoft? Is there a POC from dell, which allow to solve it ?

Thank for your helps

Théo

PowerConnect 6224 iSCSI Enable

$

I am running a SAN off of a Power Connect 6224 and was going through the setups on the Power Connect.  I noticed that the iSCSI was not enabled on the switch.  Can I enable the iSCSI config while servers are accessing the SAN through the PC6224?

Just wondering if I need to shutdown all servers linked to the PC6224.

We only have one PC6224 switch right now, we will be purchasing another one soon for redundancy.

Thanks,

Ken

PowerConnect 6248 stack frozen

Hello,

We have four Dell PowerConnect 6248 switches configured as a virtual chassis.  One of the switches appears to have stopped working - all of the link lights are off.  What's worse is, we cannot console into the switches at all.  The other switches are still passing traffic.  Are there any recommendations on how to regain control of our stack?

Need help resetting/clearing port security on 35XX PowerConnect

$

 I'm implementing port security on our network and I've never worked with these switches before. I'm used to the Cisco CLI which has the "clear port-sec sticky int" exec command, but there doesn't appear to be anything of the kind on the Dell CLI.

Here is the config I have in place on the switchport in question.

dot1x multiple-hosts

port security mode secure permanent

port security discard

 At the moment the port has done what is is supposed to, but short of removing the config from the interface completely I am unable to find a way either in the CLI reference or online as to how to "quickly" reset the port.

 Any help would be appreciated.

I want to connect a powerconnect 6248 to a powerconnect 5448.
I created a VLAN 5 and added the port 1 (mode access and untagged) and allow the port 46 (mode trunk and tagged) in both switches.

PowerConnect 2808

I'm trying to setup a powerconnect 2808 in managed mode.  I pressed the managed mode button on the front and it switched over to managed mode.  I connected to the default web interface at 192.168.2.1 and logged in with the default username and password.  I then hit apply changes on the restore configuration page.  The switch resets and I can never connect to it again.  I can't ping the ip address, web interface and telnet are down.  I've reset the device by holding the managed mode button for longer than 7 seconds and  the switch resets.  After it reboots I still can't connect to the switch.  The only way I can get on the switch again is to put it back in unmanaged mode then back to managed.  Then the cycle starts over again.  I've tried to get into the CLI instead of the web interface and I just get the >.  I type mcli and it asks for a password that I apparently don't know.  I would like to get this switch setup in managed mode.

Powerconnect 2848 LAG and Broadcom Link Aggregation

I 'm having trouble configuring a server with NIC Teaming via BACS4 (Broadcom) and a powerconnect 2848 (LAG). I know that the 2848 only supports static LACP and not dynamic. The three modes of NIC Teaming that BACS4 offers is:

Smart Load Balancing and Failover

802.3ad Link Aggregation using LACP

FEC/GEC Generic Trunking

What I want to accomplish is configure my server with NIC teaming using two 1GB ports and increase throughput to my server via LAG on the switch.

I've attempted configuring the switch with LAG following posts posted in this forum with no luck. Can anyone help point me in the right direction? Any help is much appreciated!

Is anyone having problems with the latest firmware 3.3.6.4 for 6248?

We've been having so many problems with our 6248's ever since updating them to 3.3.6.4.   Ports are blocked randomly and take hours to go back to the forwarding state.  This is happening on the trunk links.  I see Dell removed the 3.3.6.4 from the web.

Problem Connecting to Console on PowerConnect 3448

I'm using SecureCRT to connect to the switch. When i connect using the correct COM port on my desktop it appears to connect successfully but all i get is a blinking cursor. I've tried to power cycle the switch as well as reset the switch by using a paper clip to push the reset button but neither of those worked. I've tired multiple RS-232 crossover cables and verified that my terminal settings are correct (9600, 8, 1, no, none). I've also tried using different data rate numbers , but still no change

Any ideas as to what might be going on?

Thanks,

David

Powerconnect 3500 POE vs the idiot cabling tech (4 wire network jacks)

$

I just inherited this new office setup and the client bought a 3500PoE for their phones

Right before I hook things up they tell me their new printer isn't working, I test the port and it only has 2 pairs (4 wires)!!!

Turns out they hired a cabling guy to add more ports and what he did was, instead of running more cable, he took the existing runs and split the wires ( unrelated question anyone know a lawyer? What's the punishment for castrating someone?)

Question what happens if you try to connect a phone or a computer to a PoE switch using 4 instead of 8 wires?

Will the switch turn off the port?

Will it only provide data or power?

Will it provide both but with noise due to the absence of grounding?

Will something get fried? A phone or a computer?

Thanks in advance

Tagged and Untagged VLAN

$

We are having a Dell power connect 2748 switch. We have been facing an unusual problem. This switch is uplinked to a Cisco L3 switch which inturn caters to the WAN Connectivity.

We have multiple VLANs on the Dell and have created a trunk between the dell and the cisco switch and have tagged all the VLANs over the trunk port. We also tagged the access port for specific VLANs. What we observed that for an XP system connected to a Tagged access port, the system was able to receive an IP via DHCP whereas on the same port if we connected a Win7 PC it failed to get an IP.

To get around this we figured out to leave the access port as untagged for the specific VLAN, post which Windows 7 PC accuired IPs. But later on we found huge lags in accessing any app over the XP systems which were connected to a Tagged access port. Again we switched the access port to an untagged VLAN and everything was working smoothly.

Could anybody explain the logic of impact of an untagged / tagged frame on the overall network performance.

Thanks,
