Blocking traffic between VLAN's on PowerConnect 6224

I configured my PowerConnect 6224 like this:

 VLAN 201 ip adresse 10.90.0.2 (network adr: 10.90.0.0 / 24)

VLAN 301 ip adresse 10.168.11.2 (network adr: 10.168.11.0 / 24)

VLAN 302 ip adresse 10.168.31.2 (network adr: 10.168.31.0 / 24)

VLAN 401 ip adresse 10.168.12.2 (network adr: 10.168.12.0 / 24)

VLAN 402 ip adresse 10.168.32.2 (network adr: 10.168.32.0 / 24)

VLAN501 ip adresse 10.168.10.2 (network adr: 10.168.10.0 / 24)

VLAN 502 ip adresse 10.168.30.2 (network adr: 10.168.30.0 / 24)

The routing works great, but I need to configure some restrictions for VLAN 301 and 302. In both of these VLAN I want them to able to ping only the local subnet and 10.168.10.5 (our Internet proxy server). How do I configure de 6224 to prohibit VLAN 301 and 302 to be able to access only the Proxy server. VLAN 301 and 302 are public access WiFi for our employees.

Jumbo frame and packet fragmentation

Hi there,

I'm curious about if there is any command that shows fragmented jumbo frames (or any fragmented packets because of the misconfigured mtu size) on powerconnect and force10 switches?

Thanks,

M6220 frozen management

Has anyone else had problems where the M6220 blade switch management interface stops working, typically after a couple of weeks of uptime?

We've seen this freeze on firmware versions ranging from very old 3.x.x.x up to 4.1.1.9. The latest 4.2.0.4 hasn't been out long enough to be prone to the issue, which seems to be triggered by a combination of internal flash access and a uptime of a couple of weeks or more.

We have a lot of M6220 switches, running fw version 4.1.1.9 (currently the second newest available). Every now and then while working on the CLI, the interface freezes so that it stops accepting input, and no more output is printed. At this point, all management methods (except SNMP) become unavailable: Out-of-band CLI (via the CMC module), direct serial connection, and web.

SNMP continues working just fine. Both snmpwalk, snmpget and snmpset continue working.

What seems to trigger the freeze, is operations that access the internal flash storage on the switch. Things like "show running-config" or "copy running-config startup-config" seems to be the most common (or they might even be the sole) trigger for the freezes. Also, triggering the freeze like this seems to become more likely as the switch uptime increases, typically beyond a couple of weeks.

The main concern here is that there's no way for us (nor Dell, presumably) to troubleshoot a switch once it's in the frozen state. I would think the hw/fw manufacturer (Broadcom) has some tricks up its sleeve, but they might not be practical. The sheer number of switches we have could also mean that there's simply a much higher probability of us observing the issue, rather than someone with two or ten of them, so incidents are under reported.

It would help a lot to hear reports from other users who have run into the same issue, which would help us gain some momentum to get it tracked down and fixed.

PowerConnect 6248 - Crossover Configuration (MDIX)

Is it possible to configure MDIX on an individual port with the 6248 PowerConnect Switch?  I can't find any reference in the CLI manual.

Weired Connection Problem

Hi Everyone!

I have an Office Network that consists of:

Netgear Prosafe VPN Router w/ IP Addr: 192.168.1.1

Dell PowerConnect 2842 Managed Switch (In managed mode - no VLAN assigned - only used it for the basic switch function and Link Aggregation for my FreeNAS file server) w/ IP Addr: 192.168.1.2

FreeNAS Server (Self Build w/ 4 Intel NIC in Link Aggregation Mode) w/ IP Addr: 192.168.1.80

and about 10 PCs (192.168.1.100 - 110)

One of the PC 192.168.1.108 all of a sudden cannot "Map" a network drive on the FreeNAS server in windows and can't ping it either, but can ping and Map networks shares on other PCs on the same network! I switched out the CAT5e cable that's connected to the in wall jack, and it is the same thing - I even ran a pre-made CAT6 cable directly to the switch - same thing! Try pinging 192.168.1.108 from the FreeNAS's console is unpingable (all TCP/IP Packet lost) All other PC (except 192.168.1.108) can connect and Map a network drive to the FreeNAS server! Pls help in troubleshooting. TIA!

PS. All Network devices are on the 255.255.255.0 subnet each with its own static IP address w/ a gateway of 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.1

PowerConnect 2808 turn off all port security

Greetings, all.

I've inherited a PowerConnect 2808, and thus far, have gotten it only to frustrate me. I'm able to open its web interface and poke around, but the changes I'm making are not getting me to the place I want to go. And before anybody asks, I do have and have read the manual.

I want to turn off ALL port security altogether. I additionally want ports 1-4 to be a VLAN, and 5-8 to be another VLAN. I'm a networking guy, so I'm well aware that the VLANs won't talk to each other. This is to separate a test network from a production network.

Ideally, I'd love to do a factory reset on the device before I accomplish this. Normally, I'm pretty good at figuring these things out. But the documentation and the web interface for the 2808 is so poorly written as to be indecipherable gobbldeygook.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Dell 2161DS KVM over IP Switch - Firmware needed? Error:Video subsystem has failed

I need help finding the most recent firmware for the 2161DS switch?

I have owned this switch for over a year and find the lack of documentation on this model surprising. it seems you can for some firmware updates and the remote console software scattered on a few dell support pages however there is not a page for the 2161DS... nor is there any support online or downloads. also the firmware pages that do exist, i do not know if they are the most current or not??

Also I'm now incurring the following error when trying to connect to any computer via the RCS Software:

Unable to connect to the Remote Console Switch. Reason: The video subsystem has failed.

Is there any other models that work with the dell remote console software other than the newer 2161DS-2 which is much more expensive

SSL Certificates on multiple interface IPs

We have performed a Nessus scan on our network and all the interfaces of our core router have failed on the SSL cert scan on port 443. I can easily request and import a certificate from our internal CA on one of the interfaces and it is fine. But with multiple routing interfaces, how do i either use that same cert for all interfaces or generate multiple certificates (one per interface) if it only supports 2 certificates?

Thanks

Powerconnect 2162DS and 4322DS SIps

Hi Guys/Gals,

Can someone give me a list of the dell PN/s that work with the above ?  The manueals don't have it, the web site doesnt have it, and well I am totally lost now :/

Does for example the Dell PN: K5GRD work with the above units ? Or what does Avocent wise?

All help greatly appreciated :)

Dell online chat really does need to be avoided :

I have spent 20 mins on the live chat to someone at dell - waste of time.

I then spent another 25 minutes in different queues and going round in circles on telephone numbers given to me by dell online chat :(

Management Access List...on Dell Power Connect

Hi,

I have Dell Power Connect 6224 switch. I have configured three Vlan ie. Vlan60, 70, 80

Vlan60 Ip address:-192.168.60.1/24

vlan70 ip address:-192.168.70.1/30

vlan 80 ip address:-192.168.80.1/30

I want that switch can be access only from vlan 70 which is connected with router Ip address 192.168.70.2/30.

and ip address that i want to give rights to access Switch is 192.168.7.66/24.

Is it possible????

if yes so what command should i use in Management access-list?????

can't logon to switch via console

hi there,

Looks like I've made a mistake with the config of a powerconnect 55xx stack meaning I can't connect to it via console.

The error I get is....

Cannot authenticate user due to:
bad/missing configuration, inaccessible server, user low privileges.
Please reconfigure or use Password Recovery.

press ENTER key to retry authentication

I've attached my config. Can anyone tell me where I've gone wrong? I can connect via telnet/SSH, just not via the console.

Cheers,

LAG between N3024 Switches

Hi, I just got brand new switches for our new EqualLogic array. I was told it was best practice to link these to using LAG. I have followed the guide for setting up the switches for use with EQL array but it never mentioned this (except for 10Gb which we don't have). Is there a guide or can someone let me know how to go about this?

Thanks!

Powerconnect 62xx: Failed to associate MAC Address to VLAN

While trying to add a specific MAC Address to the configuration, I'm getting the following error: Failed to associate MAC Address to VLAN . The command used: vlan association mac D4BE.D912.6404 204 In my configuration I'm had 210 entries for MAC - VLAN associations, removing an old one, and retrying to add the entry didn't help. It concerns a PCT6248P stack, containing 3 identical switches, running 3.3.2.3 as firmware. Another switch (PCT6224) running the same firmware version, but which is not in a stack, does not have a problem adding this entry. The affected laptop (Latitude 65xx) is working fine in the remote location where the user normally resides. Can anyone clarify what's going wrong, and how to fix this? Stacking 6248 & 6224F

Hello I'm looking for a little help on configuring a set of stacked switches. I have a 6248 & 6224F with a stacking kit and cables. My issues is I would like to see what the ports on the 6224F are pushing out.. We are wanting to run 4 SPF's on each switch thru out the build. Right now we are running two SPFs I noticed that when I ran the second SPF from the 6224F to an switch it started handing out 169. address. once I unplugged it and left it on the original SPF it was handing out 172.x.x.x.x which is correct. All the other switches I haven't heard any but then again none of the devices turn off, so It wouldn't renew the IP address. any help would be appreciated . =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= PuTTY log 2014.06.23 08:46:30 =~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~=~= show run !Current Configuration: !System Description "PowerConnect 6224F, 3.3.10.3, VxWorks 6.5" !System Software Version 3.3.10.3 !Cut-through mode is configured as disabled ! How to open case to Dell Networking

Dear Dell Networking Community,

I Have problem with redudancy on Server inside Blade Server. We install VM inside Blade Server. the network on Blade Chasis is using Powerconnect M8024-k with NIC Broadcom NetExtreme II BCM57810. We Implement the NPAR on that NIC. actually when we disable 1 uplink A1, some VM lost connectivity and vice versa when we disable other uplink on A2.

I want to open case to dell support to get fast response and hopefully can do Webex session to resolve our problem.

Can you tell us the email to open the case about problem on Powerconnect m8024-k ?

I have try to email on Dell-Force10_Technical_Support@Dell.com but They just support the case on Force 10. based on they reference, we must open case to Dell Networking.

Hopefully you can help us immediately.

Thanks.

Aziz

Force 10 for Layer3 solutions?

Hi,

I've become a fan of the Force10 switches, and I am in need of a Layer3 switch that will allow me to run routing protocols.  Is there a small Force10 swtich <50ports that has layer3 switching included?  I was a huge fan of the Procurve line of HP switches and thought the 5304xl was a great switch (and still have some in production), but I cannot get those anymore.  Please suggest a product for me.  Keep in mind that I do not have $10k to spend.  I need more like a $3k to $5k solution.  Thanks,
