Is NAT possible using a PC 7048

$

Can I NAT to a site that lies across an MPLS link that only carries certain subnets?

Our MPLS currently carries 172.16 traffic which is routed by the PC 7048 (5.1.0.1 VxWorks 6.6)

We have added a couple of sites at one side of our MPLS and they are 192.168.x.x subnets. Instead of waiting to get the carrier network upgraded to carry 192.168, can I do it with NAT directly from the 7048?

Failing that, any other method? Tunneling? Anything?

Thanks

Brocade 4424

Does anybody know how to clear the root user on a Brocade M4424 switch for the M1000e? I got a hold of Brocade support, but they said I must contact Dell to clear the root user. I've got 3x of the switches, all of which currently have no support contract. I work for a reseller, these switches actually come directly from Dell. Anybody have a reset procedure/reset FW?

Any help would be much appreciated-

Dell Openmanage Network Manager 5.3 stopped collecting data

Hello all,

we have a Dell Openmanage Network Manager version 5.3 installed on a Windows 2008 R2 Server, which suddenly stopped to collect data from the devices that we have configured when we installed it last February.

From the Web interface we can see that the configured Switches are visible and are in the "Responding" state, but all the Widgets about Performance are reporting "No Data found for the selected Entity(s)".

We have tried to capture traffic with Wireshark and we can see traffic flowing between the server and the switches.

So far we have the following questions:

  1. How can we inspect which component inside ONM is not working? We have digged into the several logs but we didn't find anything relevant; the Mysql server is UP and Running
  2. If we reinstall from scratch the product how can we export the configuration and import it in the fresh installation?
  3. Is there a way to clean up the collected performance data from MySQL but to preserve the configuration ?

Thank you in advance for any hint.

Best regards,

Luca

Stacking Port Usage on 3448

$

I have a pair of 3448's in the rack along with a 6248. I am using the 6248 as my core L3 switch.

I have had the 3448's going back to the 6248 using port 47 as a trunk. Since the ports are all 10/100, I am pondering the benefits if I could use one of the Gigabit Stacking Ports instead of a standard 10/100 to go back to my core switch.

So I have 2 questions that I am hoping that someone might be able to answer;

1.) Since I am not stacking currently, can I use G3/G4 as a standard trunk rather than a stacking port?

2.) Would there be much bandwidth difference to the users on the switch by going to the Gigabit as opposed to the standard 10/100 that is tying the switch back to the core?

Any help would be appercaited. Thanks!

PowerConnect2848 MAC Address Filtering

In the 35xx series there is a way to lock a port to a specific MAC Address.

I am trying to find a way to do something similar with a 2848, but cannot figure it out.

Is this only possible if I am using a RADIUS server?  Or is there a way to manually lock a port to a specific MAC Address?

I have a 2848 switch for which i am unable to make trunk working.

I have tagged the port 48 with T for all the VLANS to make it a trunk except for VLAN 1 which has a U on that port by default . the port 48 is set to PVID 1.

Some one previously stated that switching of Spanning Tree in Global Settings worked but for me it is not working.

No luck! Can anyone help

Can't get CLI response on Powerconnect 7048p

I just got a 7048p put in my lap to setup for a project.  I don't know the entire previous history of the unit - so I powered it on - plugged a few cables into it to see if it would pass traffic (it does) - and hooked it up to my network to see if the OOB port would pull a DHCP address (it does).

I have it hooked up to a Digi terminal server on the administrative port,  I can get to the Openmanage login page thru the DHCP addressed OOB port - and I can telnet to the switch at the DHCP address.

But I can't get into the thing.  The major problem I think is that I get no response out of the admin port when I connect to it. The manual says that the initial username/password info must be set thru the Cli - so I'm guessing that without that happening first - there's no way I'm logging in thru the Openmanage web GUI - or thru a telnet session - is that correct?

Is there some default Openmanage user/pass I can use?

I believe I have the Digi port settings correct:

Port Profile:  Console Management

Baud Rate: 9600

Data Bits: 8
Parity: None

Stop Bits: 1

Flow Control: None

I am using a regular CAT5 cable to go from the Digi port to the 7048 admin port.  I do get a response indicating I am connecting with the client I'm using (SecureCRT)

I'm looking for any suggestions on how to get a response out of the CLI on this unit.   - Thanks!

Power connect 6224 stack problem

Hi Guys,

I have similar problem as andycrisp had in subject ' Issues with 4 stacked 6248's '. I have 2 stacked switches 6224. Normally everything works fine. But during peak I can't log in to switch in any way but console cable. Pining from any part of network works awful, which means any one of the 15 pings reaches destination. When network stabilize everything works perfect. Both stuck switches run firmware 3.3.9.1 In logs I can see only repeating all the time error :

DEC 16 10:52:18 10.10.10.2-2 DNS_CLIEN[217288320]: dns_client_txrx.c(371)
612 %% DNS Client: osapiSocketRecvFrom returned error for addr 0xCF38D90. Indica
tes there is a stack error in receiving the DNS response packet from the server.

Which is strange cause configured DNS server is different.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Cheers!

Hey,

I have a dell6248 switch and I am having issues assigning 2 vlans with public ip ranges to the same port for a server.

I tried enabling trunk mode which allowed me to assign both but it stopped all traffic on the vlan/port.

Any help figuring this out would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi,

Currently we have have a few switches that have management VLAN assigned to VLAN 1 interfaces which we connect to them via SSH. I have created a new a new VLAN for management and can ping all of the interfaces but I cannot connect via SSH.

Anyone have any ideas as to why this might be happening.

Thanks,

5548 DHCP Relay, Offer doesn't appear to route back

5548 with voip currently running.  There is a DHCP server running on the same subnet.  We are trying to test DHCP Relay and set up a separate VLAN.  From what we can tell by snooping the traffic is that the request is sent to the DHCP server on the different subnet and the response is sent back to the client.  The response can be seen leaving the firewall, going into the switch, but it doesn't make it to the requesting machine.  Here is the DHCP Relay configuration:

console# show ip dhcp relay
DHCP relay is Enabled
Option 82 is Enabled
Maximum number of supported VLANs without IP Address is 0
DHCP relay is not configured on any port.
DHCP relay is enabled on Vlans: 12
Servers: 10.28.128.20

interface vlan 12
name "DHCP Relay Test"
ip address 10.10.13.2 255.255.255.0
ip dhcp relay enable

ip route 10.28.128.20 255.255.255.255 10.10.13.1

Ports 44/45 are part of the VLAN 12.

interface gigabitethernet1/0/44
 ip dhcp snooping trust
 no lldp med enable
 switchport access vlan 12
switchport trunk allowed vlan remove 10

Port 45 is the firewall port.

This seems to be a routing issue within the switch, but I'm having troubles confirming/resolving.

attempting to update firmware from 10...15 to 10...16 on powerconnect 5548 does not show name of uploaded file...

Hello,

this may not be a big issue, however when we try to update our switches to 10.0.16 from 15 ...we don't see the file name change and the sizes appear to match exactly with .15.  We recently did a dir and we can see the newly uploaded file, however the filename appears to change/show the same as .15 ver  that we're running.

We followed the instructions...specified the .16 file name and the switch uploads the file from our tftp server with no issue and says successful.

See dir below showing recent file upload....

R1-2401 with firmware 2.0.0.46

$

I have a VRTX server and had recently updated the R1-2401 switch to the firmware 2.0.0.46.  When the switch is at this firmware level the ports gi2/1 and gi2/2 (server slot-2 ports) are in the down state and I cannot get them to the up state.  If I downgrade the firmware to 1.0.0.62 or 1.0.0.63 those ports will be in the up state.  I have a second identical VRTX with the same firmware and it doesn't have the same problem.  Is there an issue with this firmware or an incompatibility with this switch?

M8024K not responding serial port

I have two switches 8024kinstalled on a Dell Chassis  and I need to change the out-of-band IP.

1.-  Via Chassis CMC GUI I can see t the IPs of the switches but they are grey out.

2.-  when I tray to access them via serial port, they are not responding. At the putty prompt  I cannot type anything.

Is there any other way I can access the switches? What could be the reason a serial port t is not responding?

I can access other switches via serial port but not this ones.

Any Ideas will be appreciated. Thanks

BACS4 Broadcom or QLogic? - where is latest?

$

I'm running a five node 2012 R2 Hyper-V cluster with Broadcom 10G networking and NPAR in play. Each node has BACS4 v 16.4.3.0 installed to manage the NIC configs. I can also manage these NICs using BACS or by a combination of Server 2012 R2 Powershell and Dell Lifecycle Controller.

My question is this: since QLogic has a acquired ownership of both BACS and the BCM57810 product, where do I go find the latest version of BACS4? I've looked under a lot of stones and drawn a blank. Further question: what is Dell's recommendation to me on how I ought to be managing these NICs? There needs to be specific instruction as follows:

1) The lifecycle of BACS4 -- is it being phased out in favor of using Powershell and Dell Lifecycle Controller?

2) Best practice when combining NPAR bandwidth management and Server 2012 R2 bandwidth management, especially when virtual NICs are in use.

3) The M420 server hosts I'm using I plan to upgrade to vNext -- I'm concerned that there will be problems upgrading unless I find clarity now regarding Dells plan to support the management of BCM57810 and NPAR going forward.

I appreciate any insight that can be provided. I'm sure I'm not the only customer concerned about these questions.

Thanks, Anthony Murfet.

Powerconnect 7048P - Can I turn on / off POE?

This is a noob question. We are looking to purchase a switch to replace our current 7024. The 7048P is what we are looking for since it has double the ports and provides POE. My question is can we turn on and off the POE feature as we see fit? I'm thinking yes, but just wanted to double check. Google hasn't provided me with any answers =\.

N3024 inter-switch vLan routing

$

Hi,

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but I have a client with 3 geographically separate sites who wants to have an N3024 at each site and also have them talk to each other. These switches each have an ESXi box and EQL storage box attached. They need to replicate between each other.

Each site has 4 IP ranges available...all on a 10.148.x.x

Site 1 uses  10.148.1.x and 10.148.3.x, Site 2 uses 10.148.9.x and 10.148.11.x and Site 3 uses 10.148.13.x and 10.148.15.x

The vLans in question for each site will be the third octet, so we have vLans 3, 9, 11 etc.

My question is how to get them to route the vLans to each other correctly. I have read what I can find online and I'm still confused. Most documentation seems to suggest the use of a Layer 3 device in the middle of everything, but these N3024s are already layer 3 right?

It's also suggested that each vLan have it's own IP. Which I have done...but do I need to assign the vLan IP on every switch or just the one to which the vLan is native? Example - site3 uses 10.148.3.x and so I have created and assigned that vLan an IP on that switch, but do I need to assign that vLan an IP on the other switches? If I do then I get all sorts of IP conflict messages, but if I don't then the switches are unable to ping their neighbours vLan addresses.

This is a part config I have used. I know it's going to be something simple that I am missing, but I have been looking at this for a while now and have got to the point where I can't see the wood for the trees.

ip routing
interface vlan 1
exit
interface vlan 3
exit
interface vlan 9
ip address 10.148.9.20 255.255.255.0
exit
interface vlan 11
ip address 10.148.11.20 255.255.255.0
exit
interface vlan 13
exit
interface vlan 15
exit

I have set port 1 to trunk and allowed all the vLans through, and set the rest of the ports to 'general' mode. I also tried 'access' but this didn't seem to work either.

interface Gi1/0/1
switchport mode trunk
switchport general allowed vlan add 3,9,11,13,15 tagged
switchport general allowed vlan add 1 tagged
exit
!
interface Gi1/0/2
switchport mode general
exit

...etc

So...can anyone help? Could anyone provide an exact config for how to route vLans between switches? Can I do it with only three N3024s or do I need another device in there somewhere? What is the correct settings for the ports? Should one switch act as a master switch and hold all IPs for all vLans, or should each switch hold only the vLans local to that site? And where does the default gateway fit into all this - do I need one for each vLan?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Duncan
