10Gig interfaces with 6248

I have a 6248 with two CX4 interface modules installed.  I want to connect to a fibre using one of the SFP slots.  Do I have to remove one of the CX4 modules before the SPF port becomes available for use?  is there any configuration required on the switch to make the SFP port active or will it self activate when I plug and SFP module into the SFP slot?
