I've read many a thread about setting up VLANs on my PowerConnect 6248s. Up until this point, I have had one big flat network (no VLANs) and all routing is happening through my Barracuda Firewall.
My core switches are 2 stacked PowerConnect 6248s on subnet 172.16.1.0/24 which host the servers (DHCP, and in this case FreePBX). The IP 172.16.1.1 is the default gateway address to the Firewall and the core switch stack is addressed as 172.16.1.253 - this network is plugged into port 2 of my Barracuda.
I also have a stack of 5 PowerConnect 6248's hosting 226 static IP workstations in the 172.16.4.0/24 network. I would like to colocate the IP phones with the workstations and address them on the 172.16.5.0/24 network on VLAN 200 for voice. The default gateway to the firewall is 172.16.4.254 and the switch stack is addressed as 172.16.4.253 - this network is plugged into port 5 of my Barracuda.
I've read a couple threads that talk about having to move my management VLAN due to conflicts, or perhaps I need to create 2 new VLANs? Currently all workstations are on the default VLAN 1. Can I simply add VLAN 200 for the IP phones and leave the data on the default VLAN 1?
Any input on the easiset route would be great.
