Hi,
I recently had a situation where we had an apparent network outage which manifested itself as all external links went down which implicated the core switch, which also performs all required routing.
An inspection of the logs showed that the switch was complaining of a duplicate IP address (a duplicate of its own!). This was traced to a contractor's laptop, and after enquiries the owner admitted that they had tried to manually tried to set their IP configuration. From this we could see that they must have entered the gateway address as the laptops address. Needless to say they received a stiff telling off.
I would like to avoid this in the future and wondered if anyone could suggest a way of protecting the IP address of the switch. Is DAI the way forward?
Thanks
