Uploading to a Force 10 switch

$

I am having an issue uploading to a force 10 switch. I am testing my network and copy the config file from the switch to the usb. Then I factory reset the switch and upload the same config file back onto the switch. The file uploads successfully the show run shows that everything is there. Port configurations, username, password etc etc however the network is not working. I have to still hand input the port configurations and the network starts working again. Any ideas on why this is happening ??

DELL Z9100 IPV6

Hi guys,

Anyone worked with the Z9100 yet?

Besides the fact i`m facing some issues when trying to establish IPV6 BGP sessions ( Optional attribute error ), even though same setup is working for 20 peers, and for 10 does not work at all.

My major concern is another one. Can i get from someone an answer regarding how many ipv6 routes does this equipment official support?

I had a full table alert after 179 ipv6 routes ? Regardless of 200 250k ipv4. Is it possible to have only this amount?

Need quick answers. Thanks

FX2 IO Aggrigator, set root password but the default still works - also unreliable with Putty

We have a Dell FX2 with dual IOA cards in the back that have 10 gig uplinks (one for storage network, one trunk to regular network).

We set a root password but recently on an internal vulnerability test it came back with an "F" rating for easily guessable SSH credentials - successfully logged in with username: root password: calvin.

The thing is I did try this and got in but the connection dropped right away.  I've never had stability using Putty to SSH directly to the IOA.  I've always had to use Putty to the CMC and then use command to select that IOA switch and basically utilize the CMC as a proxy.

If anyone knows why putty only seems to stay connected when proxied through the CMC, and if anyone knows why the default root/calvin credentials still authenticate when we changed the root password, please let me know.  Thanks!

Setup: I just recently purchased a Powerconnect 5324 and migrated my network over to it.  Steps I have taken so far is updating firmware, setting up the webui, assigning it an ip, failed at setting up SNTP so I disabled it since it was not updating with externap servers.  My router which is a Netgear R7000 is also the dhcp server.

Problem: When a device is connected / power cycles it takes longer than 20 seconds to be able to communicate with the network.  I have tried both static and dhcp ip addresses to see if it made a difference - it does not.  Problem did not exist before converting to this switch and goes away when using old ones so long as its not plugged into this switch but directly in the router.

Need help setting up VLAN on Dell 5324 Power Connect.

Setup: Netgear R7000 as router, dhcp server etc. Dell Power connect as switch. 10 PC Environment need to isolate 1 pc completely by using VLAN.

Question: I want to setup a VLAN on my network to isolate one computer.  I don't want this computer to be able to login to the switch, router or any other pc but I do want it to have full access to the internet.  I have read a few articles and watched videos and I can not configure the Power Connect correctly to put it on a VLAN that will allow access to the internet.  Everytime I do "setup vlan" from what I thought I should be doing it does not gain a IP (could be because router is on 192.168.1.1 not 192.168.2.1).  I tried using static ip and that does allow me access to the VLAN and even the switch if I keep the 192.168.2.2 ip active on it.  But the client is still unable to connect to the internet.  Is there a way to make the internet work on both VLAN 1 (192.168.1.*) and VLAN 2 (192.168.2.*) while still separating the two VLAN's and only assign DHCP ip's using the switch on VLAN2?

Hii All

I have a problem with my Dell Powerconnect N3024

first, last week my VLAN2 gateway in my coreswitch was cannot access(192.168.2.5) , so i remove the VLAN gateway because all user and distribution switch in VLAN2 cannot make a connection to the coreswitch, then i was created a new VLAN2 but i cannot use the same ip address before, so i change it to new on (192.168.2.245). then the problem was solve, the user and the distribution can access the coreswitch, but when i check the log from coreswitch today, there is an error

it says " Address conflict detected for IP: 192.168.2.245. Conflicting Host MAC: f8:b1:56:5a:d8:85"

"IP address conflict on interface Vl2 for IP address 192.168.2.245. Conflicting host MAC address is f8:b1:56:5a:d8:85."

anyone can help??is it had a correlation with slowly access in my network??

nb: here the full log capture

N1548 stackable switch TFTP woes - using Solarwinds TFTP Server

Hi all,

We have a Dell "N1548 " switch, and we are attempting to TFTP from it, to our PC's. So far we are having issues. We can see that the TFTP Server recognises the server.

Within the main firewall, we have basically created an "any any" access list, to allow all communication from this switch to our desktops. There are NO ACLs configured on the switch. WIndows firewall is turned off, however we receive this message:

"

#copy running-config tftp://myipaddress/x.txt

Transfer Mode.................................. TFTP
Server IP Address..............................myipaddress
Destination File Path.......................... ./
Destination Filename........................... x.txt
Data Type...................................... Config Script
Source Filename................................ running-config

Management access will be blocked for the duration of the transfer
Are you sure you want to start? (y/n) y

TFTP Configuration Script transfer starting...

0 bytes transferred...
File transfer failed!

"

I can PING to this address, and we can traceroute as well. See:

"

BW-1GB-SW-01#ping myipaddress
Pinging myipaddress with 0 bytes of data:

Reply From myipaddress: icmp_seq = 0. time= 69221 usec.

Reply From myipaddress: icmp_seq = 2. time= 17597 usec.
Reply From myipaddress icmp_seq = 3. time= 17742 usec.

----myipaddress PING statistics----
4 packets transmitted, 4 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip (msec) min/avg/max = 17/30/69"

"

BW-1GB-SW-01#traceroute myipaddress

Traceroute to myipaddress ,30 hops max 0 byte packets:

1 mydefaultgateway <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms
2 myipaddress <1 ms * <1 ms

Hop Count = 2 Last TTL = 2 Test attempt = 6 Test Success = 5"

This is the same for directly connected networks too. We can't see there being any issues regarding say the firewall, as we allowed any traffic through, and still we get this error. The file does "transfer" as such, but it transfers with 0 bytes of data. See the below response that we get from the SolarWinds TFTP Server as well. This works much the same, whether you name the file as "x.backup" or "x.bak" or "x.txt"

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

Force10 S4810 Private VLAN interface mode

$

I'm trying to configure interface to private-vlan mode trunk, but this fails with: % Error: Po 48 Port is part of a non-default VLAN.

This interface is configured as follows:
interface Port-channel 48
 no ip address
 portmode hybrid
 switchport
 sflow enable
 vlt-peer-lag port-channel 48
 no shutdown

And it has normal (non-PVLAN) untagged and multiple tagged VLANs already configured.

As I experimented this on another unused interface, I was only able to configure PVLAN trunk mode when all of the VLAN tags had been removed from the interface.

The interface I'm trying to configure is critical for production. So I would not like to remove VLAN tags from it.

Is there any way to configure private-vlan mode without removing VLANs and causing connection outages for normal VLANs?

The switch in question is in VLT domain with another switch and the aforementioned port-channel leads to another identical switch setup with VLT domain. So the port-channel has total of two links (one per switch).

{ sw1 --- sw2 }- VLT domain 1
   |       |
{ sw3 --- sw4 }- VLT domain 2

I had one idea to minimize downtime and interruptions was to do this on both switches of the configured link at the same time. So for example I would simultanously remove vlans, configure PVLAN mode and re-add vlans on the first sw1/sw3 pair and after that same for sw2/sw4 pair. My management connections originate from a network attached to sw1/sw2, but AFAIK I should be able to maintain management connection to the other side through the sw3/sw4 VLT interconnect. This of course would be done during maintenance window.

General Mode Acceptable for Trunking?

Hi All,

I am a Cisco guy, supporting an international site that has a new Powerconnect switch they want to put into production. The Powerconnect needs to connect to other switches and permit vlan 1, 100,110,120,130 & 140.  I've reviewed a copy of their configuration and while formal trunk mode would have been best, this is what they've done below instead for the switch-to-switch ports.  I know a simple "switchport mode trunk" would have been easier, but if the below works just as well I'd rather leave it be and not make a request for them to have to change it, but I will if required.

Can anyone confirm?

Hi all, I'm new here, I'm looking for how to configure VLAN DATA and Voice VLAN in a same port.

Currently, I'm using a Dell powerconnect 5524, What I want to do is, have three vlan in three ports.

1 VLAN for data, 1 vlan for voice, and 1 vlan for Voice and data.
But how to ?? Please wait for your help, I already managed to create the first two vlans. But I do not know how to set up voice and data vlans in the same port. I need the CLI comand's for my case.

I would appreciate it

N-Series BPDU-Protection?

$

Can anyone help me understand the new "BPDU-Protection" feature on the N-series switches?  It appears to be a replacement for BPDUguard, which is no longer there.

I'm looking for BPDUguard as a way to prohibit rogue devices on edge ports.  I've fired up BPDU-protection in my lab on an N3024 that's connected in a ring with a pair of Ciscos.  it doesn't appear to be doing anything.  I want it to shut down any port on which it receives a BPDU (per BPDUguard).  But I'm not clear how this is going to work since BPDU-Protection is a global setting and I would need to exempt my uplinks.

Am I missing something?

Hello,

I have to install 4 new Dell S4048 switches that will live with cisco switches. In this way I need to find out the best STP configuration to compatibility.

Now reading the Guide user I have seen this: "Dell Networking OS supports only one Rapid Spanning Tree (RST) instance.• Can someone confirm me this?

6248 Discarded Packets

Greetings,

If a 6248 shows "Receive Packets Discarded" on an interface(using the "show interface counters" command), what commands/methods are available for finding out why those packets were discarded on that particular interface?

When I issue the(show interface counters), I am always showing quite a few discarded packets but all other errors listed in the same command are 0"

If I issue the "show ip stats", none of these values seem to be close to that interface.  Since this command is global, could it be the errors fall within one of these categories?  If not, what other commands can i use to track these errors down?

Here is an example.

We are looking at starting a project to move our network from the older HP pro curve switch to the Powerconnect N2048P and N3048P. Does anyone have any recommendations on an efficient way to migrate the configs off the HP or will i have to side by side manually configure the dell switches??
