Powerconnect 6248 layer 2 packet trace
Quick diif serve question
Hi,
I have a stack of 7048's and we run Lync phones. There is a voice vlan for the phones but, with Lync, some of the audio and video traffic will be on the workstation vlan. Lync uses DSCP marking for qos and I can use group policy to mark traffic from clients and servers any way I like and the phone mark voice traffic with 46. I have never configured diffserve before but I very much want to be running qos.
Here are my questions:
Do I even need to configure classes and policies if the clients are marking all the traffic? Seems like I really just need the switches to prioritize based on these markings..
If I do need to config, what would that look like? I see options in the GUI to mark the traffic based on all sorts of criteria, what if the traffic is already marked?
Should I add a policy anyways for the voice vlan? Just to make sure that everything in that vlan has a 46..
Thanks!!
N3048 bridge multicast
Hey there all wise folks. I'm starting to make the great migration from using the older 6248P series switches to the N3048P switches and need to do some static bridge multicast per port type stuff but have not figured out how to set that up on the N3048P as it seems many of the commands have changed. In the 6248P environment I use things like:
bridge multicast filtering
bridge multicast address 0100.5E01.0101 add ethernet 1/g1-1/g2, 1/g4
Any ideas how to do the same thing on the N3048P?
I even tried the web interface and found where to set up groups but when I try to add something that way nothing happens. Please advise
thanks
Steve
OME 1.3 issue displaying inventoried items
I have 8 M5424 cards that were inventoried in OME 1.3. The display only shows 3 of them, yet when I hover my mouse over the network devices, it shows the number 8. How can I fix this to display all of my Brocade switches?
PowerConnect 6248 and 10GB SFP Module
I recently added the 10SFP Module to the rear of a PowerConnect 6248, however it does not appear that the PowerConnect is detecting the new module. I plugged it into rear of the device under XG3 and XG4. Powered on the PowerConnect and I do see a red LED flash but then nothing. When connecting fiber to the ports there are no LED indicator lights flashing. I am not sure what else to try of is there something I am missing that I need to enable to allow the Powerconnect to use the module?
Thank you
Chris
VLAN Testing
All,
I have a PC 5548. I just installed a new X300 firewall router from Barracuda.
The firewall also does inter-vlan routing so I setup all the subinterfaces for the vlans.
I set the port on the switch for trunking that goes to the firewall/router.
To test a vlan, in this case 20 I used my PC and changed the IP address to the same subnet as Vlan20 on the subinterface. In this case the default gateway or router subinterface is 192.168.20.254.
I have tried setting the switchport that connects my PC these different ways
Trunk, Access with Vlan 20, and General with 1U 20T. Nothing allows me to ping the gateway subinterface. I'm at a loss here.
PowerConnect 3524P POE issue
I had a 48v Valuepoint Access point hooked into port 24 using POE with no problem. Just replaced it with a new Ubiquiti access point (24v) and when I do a show power inline, the status on port 24 is "Fault". I never seen this and can't find the answer anywhere. Any ideas??
I realize that the priority goes to the lower port when priority is the same and I already tried setting the priority to high, I reloaded the switch and enabled and disabled the port.

Powerconnect 6248P and shoretel phones
Hello,
I'm trying to get my shoretel phones to work with 6248P switch. I've configured the switch, but when the phone reboots it keeps getting the cached lease. If i change the settings on the phone manually to enable tagging and set vlan 12 for the tagged vlan, it doesn't get dhcp.
here is an example of my switch config:
console(config)# vlan database
console(config-vlan)# vlan 12
console(config-vlan)#exit
console(config)#
console(config)# voice vlan
console(config)# interface ethernet 1/g1
console(config-if)# switchport mode general
console(config-if)# voice vlan 12
the inter-vlan routing is done using cisco asa5510 and connectivity has been verified between the two vlans.
Please advise.

Dell N3048 - Jumbo Frame support per port
Hi,
Can we enable Jumbo frame on a per port basis on the N3048.
I remember we could do this using the PowerConnect 6224.
I just need to turn on 9000+ mtu on specific ports...
Thanks.
Dell 5548P
I have a Dell 3448p that is configured with our current Vlans, I have a Dell5548p that I need to connect using the same vlans that are on the 3348, I configure the 5548 with those same Vlans but now after connection the two together I cannot connect to a device on the 5548 vlan from the 3448 although I can connect to the web interface of the 5548 from the 3448. What needs to be done so that both switchs act as one.
Blank/Empty HyperTerminal connecting to Foundry FLS648
Has anyone run into this issue?
I recently purchased a foundry FLS648 and it won't show anything on HyperTerminal, I've played with the connection settings and never got anything other than a blank screen.
Anyone have a suggestion on connecting to this unit?
Setting up 'learned' MAC addresses as 'sticky ports' on DELL 7048P
Hi,
Trying to setup one of our Dell 7048P switches with locked down ports based on the MAC address of the devices that are currently connected to the switch. What are the steps to do this via the GUI and CLI interfaces?
Thanks,
noob initial setup on the powerstack 6248 from a 3248
hello all -
we are a church with a very simple setup. we need to have one port dedicated to a public wi-fi, and the rest of the ports for the church office. one (or more) ports will connect to our router.
so, i am thinking about a setup like this (again, please remember i am a noob)
port 1 - connected to a dedicated pc to monitor switch
ports 2-3
port two goes to our wi-fi wireless-access-point, port
port three goes to our router
ports 4-48
ports 4 through 47 are all the computers, printers, etc
port 48 also goes to our router
i figured out how to get into the serial interface, by entering:
- enable
- config
- ip address 192.168.123.199/255.255.255.0
- ip default-gateway 192.1.68.123.199
- exit
then i went into the website interface, created two vlans, and set ports 2&3 to "U" on the pubic-vlan, and set ports 4-48 to "U" on the office-vlan.
i would like to run this past anybody who knows more about this than i do (which includes just about everybody)
previously we had a PS-3448 and i just simply ran the following script (below), but that didn't work on this new switch. on the PS-3448 i only needed one cable for the router, not two. but again i am only guessing here.
any help would be most appreciated by me and everybody at the church!
PS-3448 setup script below:
enable

New configured vlan4 could not get IP address from our AD server
Any guys can help me: Due to network expanding, I need allocate a new subnet 192.168.4.0 on our co lan. existing, 3 private LAN 192.168.1.0 (primary, connected all Windows AD server and internet devices). 192.168.2.0 and 3.0 are department LAN for user workstations. All user workstations on any networks got IP from Windows AD host 192.168.1.20. I used a new 6249 dell switch to configure a new VLAN 192.168.4.0, but user on this network could not get IP from the AD host. Dell 5548P Vlans
Just connected a 5548p to our network and I can get on the web interface, I have created several vlans and set them all to access, I have one port (48) on vlan 1 as trunk, Not sure why but when I connect a device to one of the vlan ports I have no access to it I can't ping or anything, I read somewhere on another forum that I need vlan routing enabled but for the life of me I cannot find anywhere to enable vlan routing, or maybe it is some other issue that is causing the problem? I also did the switchport mode access for all vlans and trunk allowed vlan add command for all vlans.
PC 8132 (N4032) Vlan membership access via browser - not possible
Latest firmware v6.0.1.3, two member stack
No matter what browser (tried 4 different ones so far)
All I get is spinning wheel
Just installed Solarwinds NPM - showing high receive discards PC6224 stack
Showing high receive discards with some interfaces at over 1 million discards per hour. This has probably been going on for some time but just now got visibility into the issue. The ports are for iSCSI traffic back to PS4100 SAN. Discards in solarwinds do correlate to what is in switch. Any help would b greatly appreciated.
