Powerconnect 6248 stack can't multicast

$

I have a stack of Powerconnect 6248s with a number of VLANs.  The switch stack itself acts as a router and routes between the VLANs.

I need multicasting on one VLAN.  I don't need or want the multicasting to route out of that VLAN. On that one VLAN I have many different sources and receivers starting and stopping at random.  So any kind of fixed configuration would not work.   If I set the VLAN to bridge multicast forward all or bridge multicast forward unregistered then every port gets the multicast. If I set the VLAN to filter unregistered multicasts, no multicasting happens.

As I understand it, this is broadcasting, not multicasting.

I have tried turning on IGMP snooping.  The sources register OK.  This is a simple thing to do on a CISCO switch.  It just doesn't seem to work or I can't get it to work.

I just want proper multicasting working on that one VLAN.

Dell 8132F / N4032F, Radius only PAP?

We have configured four Dell 8132F running 6.0.1.3 (N4032F) for administrator authentication to a Microsoft NPS with Radius, but we have only been able to configure the connection with PAP which feels highly insecure.

How do we configure it to use CHAP or EAP instead?

Configuration

aaa authentication login "networkList" local radius
aaa authentication login "loc" local
aaa authentication enable "enableList" enable radius none
aaa authentication enable "RadiusEnable" radius
ip http authentication radius local
ip https authentication radius local
radius-server host auth "Radius-FQDN"

exit

Proper Method to Restore Running, Startup and Firmware to PowerConnect 6224 Switch

Hello All,

I have a PowerConnect 6224 switch in production that is configured exactly the way I want it.  I have a new PowerConnect 6224 switch that I want to restore the config to; is that possible?  My goal is to not have to manually enter settings for every single switch.

I attempted a few methods but they do not seem to work.  If someone can tell me the correct procedure or point me in the right direction that would be great!

Trouble with Inter VLAN Routing

$

I must be missing a significant concept in VLAN Routing.  I have 20 or so Dell 3548 switches all configured on default VLAN1.  I have these a voice VLAN on these configured and working but they are using a Cisco 3560 switch we want to take out of service.

I have a PC 6224 Layer 3 Switch we want to do VLAN routing with.  And we want to add additional VLANS for clients; mobile devices, desktops & servers.

For testing I configured the 6224 with VLAN 25, 100 with routing.  I configured two access ports on VLAN25.  And the last two ports are configured for General and have VLAN 25/100 tagged.  On the switch I can ping devices elsewhere on the network VLAN1 or directly connected devices on VLAN25 or remote phones on VLAN100.  But from a desktop connected to the port on this switch Untagged VLAN25 I cannot ping or reach devices on VLAN100.  The two test desktops are assigned IP 192.168.40.100 & 192.168.40.101 with Gateway of 192.168.40.1.

The switch config is:

Can't Access Powerconnect 6248 GUI - Problems with Startup Wizard

$

I have two Powerconnect 6248 running 3.3.3. I can not access the GUI interface. Basically, right now I just want to connect the switch to my laptop for testing.  I can't do this.  I keep getting configuration errors and I can never access the GUI via a browser.

I've followed the startup wizard as described here: ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powerconnect/powerconnect-6248_User's%20Guide2_en-us.pdf

and watched the Dell Studios video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t786JiHaiPs

The datacenter gave me a bunch of IP addresses, but I didn't think I need to enter those in now since I am just trying to connect via my laptop to test.

For some reason I go through the configuration and this is the error I get:

User Account setup = admin

Password = ********

Management IP address = 192.168.2.2 /24

Default Gateway = 192.168.2.1

Step 5:

If the information is correct, please select (Y) to save the configura tion,

and copy to the start-up configuration file. If the information is inc orrect,

select (N) to discard configuration and restart the wizard: [Y/N] y

Thank you for using Dell Easy Set up Wizard. You will now enter CLI mo de.

Applying Interface configuration, please wait ...

7024 stack member restarts

We have two 7024 running image 5.1.3.7 connected with a dual CX4 module in each switch and two cables crossed to provide the stack links.  All looks good, but in four days, the standby (unit 2) has left the stack and come back again 4 times. I notice there is a new firmware available within the ;last few weeks, but it does not mention this particular issue as fixed.  Anyone had the same?

I haven't had chance yet to re-seat the modules/cables which I understand are hot pluggable, so will try and do this tomorrow.  Below is syslogged events but I can't tell what the standby switch was doing or detected when it went wrong.  Any ideas how to track this or do I need to plug a cable in and debug/capture it via serial port?

VLANs not working as expected

Current setup:

Firewall and route point for two networks (staff and guest).  One port (port 1) is for the staff and a separate port (port 2) is for the guest.    Port 1 (staff) on the FW goes to a Dell connect 2724 with a managed default config.   All staff resources are on the dell connect.  Also on the dell connect is a wireless access point for the staff.  Port 2 (guest) plugs directly to a guest wifi  AP (separate from the staff).  Everything works.

To be state:

The wireless AP we use is the Engenius EAP350 and it has the ability to have 8 SSIDs each in their own VLAN.  I am looking to move both wireless networks onto a single AP.

To do this I moved the FW port 2 to a port on the dell connect (port 9) and put this in PVID 2 and changed the dell connect port that connected to the existing staff wifi AP (port 7) to a trunk port (tag 2).  all other settings are still default.  The staff wifi is vlan 1 and the guest wifi is vlan 2 and tagged on the AP.  My assumption is that the vlans are tagged at the AP, allowed through the dell connect trunk port port and then DHCP requests for vlan one then go to the FW through port one and dhcp requests for vlan 2 go to the fw on port 9.  It didn't work.  So to remove the AP from the equation all together, I made port 10 on the dell connect a PVID in vlan 2 also and plugged my laptop in it.  Since port 9 and 10 are both access ports in vlan 2, all dhcp requests should have been fullfilled by the FW in the correct subnet.  However, it did not work.  any ideas or examples that can be sent on access and trunk setup.  I am very well versed on them with cisco, but dell connects are doing it a little different.

PowerConnect 2824 - SNMP Monitoring

Hello,

I'd like to monitor the status of a Dell PowerConnect 2824 switch using SNMP. I'm having difficulties finding the appropriate MIBS.

Edit: I've managed to access the switch via the web interface and am now receiving SNMP traps as expected.

2) Which OIDS are available to monitor: power, temperature, load, connections, faults, etc? Where can I find the MIB files? Or more detailed documentation explaining the usage?

Any advice or links to the appropriate documentation is appreciated.

Thanks.

Force master member in a N2000 stack

Hi,

I have a stack of N2000 switches. For easy of management I would like to force the master to a particular switch and just don't rely on highest MAC or other options in the manual.

My question, is it possible to force master member in a N2000/N4000 stack?  (I read about force standby and initiate failover but it's not a good enough solution for me).

Kind regards

G'Day

I need HELP, please? We have upgraded our control system and have in the process also switched over to the 5524P switches, the problem I have is that it is extremely slow. I'm sure it must be some setting that needs to be adjusted. in the start we've used rappid spanning tree setting(still set) then we were informed that we need to switch over to the Stacking option. I've plugged in the HDMI cables, 9this is working as I've lost all IP settings on 3 of the switches but I'm able to see all of them via 1 IP address) . I've have very little experience with stacking and Dell switches. Also note that we aim to have redundancy between the switches, meaning SW1 and 2 have more or less the same connections and SW3 and 4 have the more or less the same connections. Also SW1 and 2 needs info from SW3 and 4.

Assistance in configuring single port for trunking.

Hello,

We have a 6224 and would like to enable port 1/g6 (side A) for trunking to another switch (side B) else where in our colo. VLAN's 1, 40, 50 and 60 reside on side A and VLAN's 35-49 on side B. Our colo provider as already setup the cross connect and says they have their switches configured correctly.

Could someone please advise the proper steps for allowing all traffic between the two switches on the single port.

Thanks.

I downloaded manual for configuring the swtich and followed instructions.

I am trying to set management adapter ip or any other service parameters after few minutes the switch is going back to starting point config all setting disappear.

Now i am new with those switch's  , maybe i missed something or doing something wrong

Original FORCE10 S60-44T Caught in boot loop..

Hi!,

I'm a rookie so bare with me.

I have a couple older (gray) Force10 S60-44T units.. One boots fine and the other is caught in a boot loop.. I have tried getting info from the internet, but everything I have found regarding recovering these is for the units running newer software with completely different OS''s and bootloaders . Mine do not give the same boot options or prompts.

I can get into the U-Boot environment and change the options, and I even got as far as being able to ping my tftp server from the u-boot prompt, but I must be missing a command or statement, cause it will not connect to my tftp server when I issue the "bootp" prompt....

Attaching to text files of what I have.. (original settings)

DELL 5548 syslog problem

Hello,

I think 5548 switches has syslog bug.

command "show logging" shows:

16-May-2014 09:25:38 :%LINK-I-Up:  gi1/0/25
16-May-2014 09:25:35 :%LINK-W-Down:  gi1/0/25

Syslog receives:

May 16 09:25:35 192.168.0.1 LINK Hostname: <192.168.0.7>, gi1/0/25#015
May 16 09:25:38 192.168.0.1 LINK Hostname: <192.168.0.7>, gi1/0/25#015

In syslog cannot see when link was up and when was down :(

SW version: 4.1.0.16

Best regards,

Tomas

link 8132 and 2000 series switch with 10GBE copper

hi there,

I'd like to like a powerconnect n2000 switch back to a 8132 with a 10GBE connection that is 15m away. I have attached a diagram that hopefully explains it.

Is there a 10GBE copper SFP that can be used in the n2000?

The 8132 already has QSFP connections to 6 other switches.

Thanks for any advice

I need to get Qnap 1679U-RP with Qnap 10G dual port card (Intel X520 based)  to connect to stacked 2 x N4032 as port trunking 802.3ad

On the Qnap there is not much settings available :

Port Trunking & mode IEEE 802.3ad

On the switch(es) I have PO1 configured as Dynamic

console#show interfaces port-channel 1

Channel   Ports                         Ch-Type Hash Type Min-links Local Prf

-------   ----------------------------- -------- --------- --------- ---------

Po1       Active: Te1/0/19, Te2/0/19   Dynamic 7         1         Disabled

Hash Algorithm Type
1 - Source MAC, VLAN, EtherType, source module and port Id
2 - Destination MAC, VLAN, EtherType, source module and port Id

4 - Destination IP and destination TCP/UDP port
5 - Source/Destination MAC, VLAN, EtherType, source MODID/port

But I have no connectivity at all

PC 6248P Ip helper-address dhcp

I am working on getting a vlan setup for our new shoretel phones. I have 2 PC 6248p stacked. The first unit is primarily used for desktops servers and our wireless APs. The APs are on a vlan (1001 - which is bound to 192.168.3.0/24) but all the other ports are Access and are set to vlan 1 untagged (vlan 1 is the default vlan). Our DHCP server is on 192.168.1.0/24 which is the subnet for the default vlan and has a scope setup for this subnet. It also has a scope set for 10.1.6.0/24 which is the subnet for vlan 200 Unit 2 of the stack has most of its ports set to general mode pvid 200. Vlan 200 interface is set to 10.1.6.1 and VLAN 200 is bound to 10.1.6.0/24 I have DHCP relay enabled globaly and VLAN 200 set for IP helper-address 192.168.1.185 which is my DHCP server. I have tried having my switches in routing mode and with "no ip routing" either way, when devices are plugged into ports with Switchport general pvid 200 the dhcp server is unavailable. When plugged into a port set as untagged then DHCP is available and the device gets a 192.168.1.0/24 address. I need devices plugged into the ports tagged vlan 200 to get assigned address via DHCP in the 10.1.6.0/24 subnet. What am I missing?

video priority on PC6224 and PC5548

Hi, Our ISP provides us with IP video conferencing using their MPLS network. I'm trying to set video priority on the switches but I'm not sure it's correct as I see a lot of packet drops on the video equipment and the quality is poor. Can you please confirm the config is correct on the related switches? The IP Video equipment do tag the packets with Diffserv34.

I believe I have configured the switches to trust DSCP and to map Diffserv34 to Cos queue 6 which I suppose is the highest priority. And also specified that if traffic on the related port is not receiving packets tagged with Diffserv34 then it should mark them and set the Cos queue 6.
