Here's is what I am confuse with this Force10. We currently have an internet gateway Cisco 2600 router and also a default gateway Cisco 2600 router. My question is, if I were to get the force10 S5000 Layer 3. Should i be able to elminate both of this Cisco router and only use the ISP connection directly to this Switch. If a Layer 3 can route, should the Force10 able to set the default gateway on the switch as well?
Using Force10 as a default gateway?
LLDP and SNMP

which OID should i use?
High CPU for ipMapForwardingTask
I have a problem with Powerconnect 6248, which appeared recently. Time from time CPU for ipMapForwardingTask rises up to 30-40% instead of normal operation (average 6%) and PINGs to switch raises from 1ms to 50-100ms. Logs show nothing. It last from several dozens seconds to minutes. Then it goes back to its normal stage, but after few hours (or less) repeats again. What could be the reason? Current FW 3.3.1.10
switch 6268p configure 3 vlan to the specifics interface
I configured a switch 6248P setting

now I want to configure the ports 1/g2-1/g10 to communicate on all VLAN ( VLAN20 , VLAN30 , vlan40 )
console # show vlan

with this configuration if I connect a PC to a port (eg 1/g8) and on the PC I configured an IP address from the same network class defined in the VLAN PVID of the port 1/g8 everything works.
if I change my ip address to your computer (by setting a class equal to another VLAN that is not configured as a PVID does not work).
do not get it wrong.
lldp-med and 802.1x
Hi,
We currently have a few stacks of 7048Ps as our office switches. We have both IP phones and computers, they each have their own individual ports on the switch (so no phone to PC daisy chaining).
Currently we have all the access ports on the same settings:
1. native vlan is data vlan
2. LLDP-MED assigns voice vlan
When a phone is plugged into the switch LLDP-MED assigns it to the voice vlan and when a PC is plugged in it stays on the data vlan.
We're needing to put in 802.1X in the near future and unfortunately our phones don't support 802.1X so I was wondering how these two (802.1X and LLDP-MED) play together and if there's any interoperability.
I realise I could add all the MAC addresses of the phone into AD and use them as MAB access but that's not a particularly appealing option to me. I was wondering if it's possible to still have LLDP-MED assign the voice vlan and allow traffic for a device that doesn't respond to 802.1X requests? How would I do this?
Boot upgrade on PowerConnect 5324
Trying to upgrade the firmware and boot on several powerconnect 5324 switches. Very old versions, firmware is 45 and boot is 1.00.2.02
First tried using hyper terminal and xmodem. In going to the latest I read the cautionary note about continous rebooting so took firmware from version 45 to 47,no problem. Then tried to upgrade the boot and following download got an "Incorrect file format" message. Tried again, using the latest 10.0.21 with the latest package.
Still got file format error message.
Tried it using cli and the tftp method. Immediately got the incorrect file format message. Should I try downloading the software again, or is something else going on? Switches are out of warranty.
Thanks
Paul
PowerConnect 5324 bricked
Hi all,
I've recently acquired a used Dell PowerConnect 5324. The switch was in good working order but I figured it would be best to update to the latest firmware on it. Well, I've managed to brick it (by not updating both the firmware and the boot code).
I've read Dell's support article on this situation. I have tried using Xmodem to upload the newest as well as older boot codes/firmware versions but I have had no success. Here is what the switch outputs to the serial port when it boots:

All of which were downloaded from various places on the Dell website (the Drivers page for the switch, their FTP site, or the support article on this issue, respectively).
I am using OS X 10.6 with ZTerm as an Xmodem client.
Anyone have any suggestions? The switch is out of warranty (expired last year)... would it even be possible to have Dell fix it if I wanted and would that be any less expensive than just buying a new one on eBay (~$200)?
Normally I'm a Cisco guy, but I wanted gigabit and VLANs without breaking the bank and thought Dell might be a way to do that. Have to say I haven't been impressed so far.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Changing the IPv4 address on a PowerConnect 3524 through Dell OpenManage Switch Administrator
Can someone give me a step by step process to change the IP address on a PowerConnect 3524 in OpenManage Switch Administrator.
Open Manage Network Manager 5.3 View Total Network Traffic on a Port
Hi
I am trying to use OMNM's Traffic Analyzer feature to measure and display the total traffic, incoming and outgoing on a port of a PC-6248 switch.
The Exporters Summary view displays the incoming traffic only on a port, is there a Taffic Anlyzer view that shows the outgoing traffic or total traffic on a port ?
Can the total traffic on a port can be calculated using Converations or End Point views ?
Thanks,
Andrew

Default Web IP Addeess - PC 3548P
Hi there,
I am new to the PC 3548P. I was wondering if by (factory) default....
1. The web server is enabled
2. There is an IP assigned to it to make it reachable.
3. There are default credentials that can be used.
I currently do not have a laptop with a serial interface and I so not have a USB-to-Serial adapter.
That is why I am asking if there is a default method of reaching the web-based management (or CLI management). Then I can enter with my browser and, well, manage it....
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks!!

vlan routing woes 7024
Hi,
RE: 2 x PowerConnect 7024 switches connected together over 10G fiber
I'm having trouble with routing traffic. 3 VLANs in total. I've got one vlan routing between switches over its own 10G trunk, but I'm unable to get two other vlans talking across the other 10G trunk.
default gateway set. ip routing enabled. ip addresses assigned to each vlan. default route configured. vlan1 is the production network. Ping connectivity between devices for each vlan on each independent switch is fine, however the switches cannot see each other on either of these two VLANs. Similarly the devices on the same VLAN but on opposing switches cannot communicate. Vlan 1 is the native vlan on the trunk with connectivity woes.
Switches were running 5.1.0.1. Now running 5.1.3.7 firmware. No change in symptoms.
is vlan 1 routable ?
in what circumstances is switchport mode general required rather than switchport mode trunk that I'm used to using.
Many thanks in advance.
Dell62xx VOIP component error: VoipPktIntercept(): message send failed
We have several Dell 6224 and 6248 switches running 3.2.1.3 through 3.3.9.1 firmware that occasionally experience poor performance all at once.
When this happens, there is an info message that repeats three times per second in the buffer log: component VOIP - VoipPktIntercept(): message send failed. While this is happening pings to the management IP for layer 3 switches are over 500ms and over 50ms non-routing switches.
The error does not resolve by unplugging all the devices from the ports. The only way to correct the issue is to reload the switch.
Auto VOIP mode is disabled. Some switches have never experienced the issue while others have the issue often.
I feel that some type of traffic that may be causing this but I do not know where to start or how to more gracefully mitigate the issue. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Kurt

N4032F SFP module compatibility
I have a 320-2881 1000base-sx MM sfp module. I'm wondering if it's compatible with the N4032F switch I have on order.
Are there any compatibility matrices available?

PowerConnect 62xx crash.Error: VoipPktIntercept(): message send failed
Dear support,
we are experiencing this issue for years. Switches powerConnect 6224 and 6248 occasionally suffer lost of performance and finally get stuck. In the log we can read several messages like this:
VOIP[103498576]: voip_control.c(179) 10946 %% VoipPktIntercept(): message send failed
The only way to recover the switches is rebooting from console or hardware reboot.
We have tried to update the firmware, disable auto VoiP, replace the units, etc. without success.
Now the units are two stacked 6224 with 3.3.4.1 firmware and RSTP.
We have similar configurations with the same firmware at other sites without issues. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
S4820T DHCPv6
Hi All
I wonder wether S4820T supports DHCPv6 now or in the future release?

Thank you.
VLAN CONFIGURATION ON PC 6224
Hello
We are configuring a firewall and I have a physical interface with two virtual ips.
= 10.0.0.1/24 not tagged
= 192.168.0.1/24 vlan 100
This interface is connected to 6224 switch. Shall I set this port as trunk mode ?
Vlan Tagging
Hi,
we have six different location where we installed dell power connect switches. all of them has different subnet.
like location 1 vlan 10 subnet 192.168.10.0/24, location 2 vlan 20 subnet 192.168.20.0/24 so on.
at every site from port no 1 to 7 are in their respective vlans.
from port no 6, from all the sites a fiber link is coming to our data center (six different vlans traveling in single physical link)
my service Provider said just put this link into the trunk port and allow vlan 10,20,30,40,50,60.
so, in my data center i put this link to port no 21 and put this port general allowed vlan add 10,20,30,40,50,60 tagged
Now,
In our data center i have one server which has 6 virtual machines. for each site has it own virtual machines.
so, i put this server in to a general port and allowed vlan add 10,20,30,40,50,60, in virtual machines i tagged with their receptive vlan which link provider given to me.
but the problem is that its not pinging.....
when i directly connect this link into the server and give respective Ip address and tagged with respective vlan then its pings.
is there any advance configuration should i do in to other sites switch or in datacenter switch?????
Powerconnect 2848 multiple vlan IP addresses
Hi everyone.
Im a bit new to all this, but I have a Dell power curve 2848 in my office. It runs on the subnet of 192.168.0.x normally. is it possible to run a vlan with this router to a single port? i want to link in one of my sites with a wireless link to share the single internet connection, but this site runs on the 192.168.68.x sumbet - So I need to switch to be both 192.168.0.251 and 192.168.68.251 for this to work.
Is this possible? I have had it done with a cisco modem, and if it would work with the Dell switch that would be awesome
