G'day,

Just wondering if PowerConnect 6248p can act as a DHCP server?

I can see it can act as a rely, but having trouble seeing any doco and options relating to it being a standalone DHCP server.

Currently running firmware 3.3.5.5

Thanks in advance for the help

Trouble with TFTP server and firmware update with PowerConnect 3324

$

I'm having difficulty communicating with the SolarWinds TFTP server I just installed on my system.  Our firmware for our 3324's are a decade old, and I was attempting to update the firmware using the 332448-1213.dos file that I unzipped after entering in my Service Tag on the website.

By default, the TFTP server creates a root directory in C:/TFTP-Root, which I have been attempting to use (I put the firmware in this folder)  I wanted to backup the running-config prior to making any changes, so I found some Dell documentation for 3324 switches that states that by running the following commands I would be able to backup the startup-config and running-config prior to making any changes.  I figured that this would also be a way to test my TFTP server as well.  I telnet into the switch from my desk and the commands that I'm trying are:

console# copy startup-config tftp://192.168.2.119/startup.bak

console# copy running-config tftp://192.168.2.119/running.bak

My TFTP server shows as "started" (UDP-69), allows all IP addresses to send & receive files.

After I run either command from the CLI, I see:

.......................................................................%TFTP-N-TIMERSEND: Timeout

Copy: Undefined error

%COPY-W-TRAP: The copy operation has failed

I am able to ping my system from the CLI (My system is where the TFTP server is installed on)  I'm not really sure what to do at this point.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

m6348 10GbE port functionality

Hey Everyone,

Does anyone know if I can use the 10GbE ports on the m6348 as an access port to a server and not only as a trunk/uplink? I would like to utilize this 10GbE functionality to push/pull storage volumes to an array.

Thanks!

Performance issues and "foreign PDU" error

Hi,

We're using a M100e chassis with 2 M6220 switches. The M6220 aren't connected with eachother, but are connected to 2 Cisco 2970G's:

M6220 <--> C2970G <--> C2970G <--> M6220

We're experiencing performance issues, like 1% packetloss and slow responses.
Both Cisco switche do not show any error or warning in the logs, but both powerconnects are flooded with these messages:

<189> APR 23 17:19:12 10.0.250.22-1 ISDP[122766080]: isdp_txrx.c(169) 459307 %%Foreign pdu on interface Po1

I've been searching the whole net, but haven't found an explanation of these errors.

Does anyone know where these errors come from?

SonicWall NSA 250M + Powerconnect 6248

Hi

At this moment we have a flat network:

ISP <-> Sonicwall WAN (X1)

Sonicwall LAN (X0) <-> 6248 (2 Stack)

Sonicwall X1 is configured with static IP provided by ISP. X0 is connected to one of the 6248 with /24 ip series. In powerconnect, there is a VLAN 80 configured and all the ports are under VLAN 80.

Now I want to configure in a different way:

ISP <-> port 1 of 6248

port 2 <-> Sonicwall WAN

Port 3 (Need to use as a gateway IP for some servers as ISP gave us few public ip's). Want to use some ip's for PPTP server and some other servers.

port 4 Mirror of port 1 or port 2 for IDS (Want to install snort)

from port 5 to 10 I want to connect to 3 esxi hosts

11 to 48 of switch 1 for user data port and switch 2 port 1 to 40 for voip pabx.

Can anybody please help me configure this? Any suggestion is also welcome to change the above scenario to make it more functional.

6248: Is routing possible on VLAN 1 after moving Management to new vlan

$

Network

  • We have 8 Dell 5448 switches with flat network - no vlans
  • We just acquired 2 Dell 6248 for L3 switching so we can implement vlans - slow migration, not all at once
  • We moved the Management from VLAN 1 to VLAN 1000
  • Routing between the other vlans works with no issues - however, we cannot route to / from VLAN 1

QUESTION

    Can you route to / from vlan 1 after Management has been moved to a different vlan?

6248 Configuration Assistance

Hello,

I've never setup a switch before so I'm in search of some assistance and guides that may assist me.

Basically I need to route our IPs through the switch and also have a specific range of IPs for a specific range of ports in a vlan.  For instance, I have vlan 2 which would have port 1-10 and assign an IP range to that vlan i.e. 67.xxx.xxx.160 /28.

The switch is hosted within a datacenter.

If anyone can provide me with some assistance or any known guides on how to configure this I'd be greatly appreciative.

Thanks.

Issue with Intel SFP+ and Dell 8132F (and 5548P)

$

I recently purchased switches to run data and phones for our office, however I'm having some issues with the SFP+ adapters not linking.

The transceivers in question are Intel branded "FTLX8571D3BCV-IT"  (Intel Prod Code E10GSFPSR).  I also have a few Dell "FTLX8571D3BCL" SFP's that seem to work fine.

I also have other Intel 10GbE SFP+ transceivers "AFBR-703SDZ-IN2" (also Intel Prod Code E10SFPSR) that work just fine.

The 5548P will log when the non-working SFPs are plugged in and unplugged.  If I run "show fiber-ports optical-transceivers", I am able to see vital stats from the "non-working" ports, including stating that there is no loss of signal on the port.  I can also watch the Input Power field and am able to tell when a fiber is connected or not.  All of this is also true when the same SFPs are connected to an 8132F.  Both switches are running the latest firmware available (8132F - v5.1.1.7; 5548P - 4.1.0.10).

Any ideas on what could possibly be causing these transceivers to not link and function properly?

Network Switch on port

We are trying to purchase seven n2000 series.  Our objective is to try to stack this together.  However my question is when you stack, all 7 switches will be as one.   if i were to split this 7 switch to different vlan, how would Layer 3 Core knows when I already configure the port.  For example , port 1 for internet, port 2 for vlan 50 (r&d), port 4 (Accounting), etcs etcs...  if the seven access layers stacked switch, how would configure to split those switch and connected to the core?

How do I test my switch?

Hi all, I'm a little new to networking switches but was given a PowerConnect 5448 and I'm having trouble accessing the Web GUI.  Here's what I did so far:

I realize the switch doesn't have DHCP so I can't directly plug my laptop into it.  So, I plugged the switch into a spare router which my laptop was plugged into.  I ran an iplookup hoping to find the PowerConnect IP address to log into, but it wasn't showing up at all.  This is where I wasn't sure what to do next...

Should I find a serial cable and access it that way or do some kind of hard reset?  Any advice would be appreciated!  Thanks :)

multicast on general trunk port

I want to have multicast working on 2 ports in my switch.  How can I do this?   It worked until I changed my ports to General to add a tagged vlan to it.  From then on my multicast has stopped working.

Attached is my config.  g1 and g3 are the ports I want multicast working.  What else to I need to add to get it working?

Out-of-Band Management on DMZ servers

$

Hi, I have four PC7048s in my DMZ. External facing, Internal facing and 2 separate DMZs. All good. All working.

Since they are DMZs i only want them to route between each other and so have switched off SSH, Https, Telnet and http management so they cannot be remotely managed from those DMZ subnets.

I then plugged the OOB interfaces into my internal management switch and VLAN them accordingly. Great i can now ping my OOB interfaces on all four. But i cannot manage them since i have disabled SSH, HTTPS, HTTP and Telnet

If i enable them (just SSH and HTTPS) i am now able to manage the switches from the DMZ subnet on the DMZ IPs

I thought the point of the OOB was so this didn't happen and there was isolation? If i have to globally switch on HTTPS and SSH then they're not really properly isolated (i understand that traffic from OOB cannot talk to IN-Band etc - it's the fact that i have to turn on a global configuration for in isolated OOB service)

Am i missing something?

Thanks
