Dead Circuit 2 on Dell Powerconnect 5448

Ports 13-24 (Circuit 2) on my Dell Powerconnect 5448 are dead with no lights regardless of the connection. Is there any way to have the device serviced or that circuit replaced?

Thanks,

Will C.

OMNM does not deploy OS 6.2.7.2 on N2000

Wondered if anyone else is having issues deploying the latest FW for the N2000 switches using OMNM?

Scheduled a few now and first one on a single switch went okay but has failed to complete on 3 stacks now.

Error: timeout waiting for a response,

but the job status shows the file being transferred and file deploys to the backup images?

Just doesn't do the reload bit?

I have to physically set next boot version and reload

To stack or not to stack

Should you stack a pair of N4032s when they will be used for iSCSI? My concern would be firmware updates. Do these switches need to apply the firmware and reboot at the same time, thus interrupting iSCSI?

35xx/34xx version of the "show tech-support" command.

Recently started a new position and have differing PowerConnect models I'm trying to manage, on my 6248 I was able to use the command "show tech-support" but that doesn't seem to be working on my 35xx or 34xx series switches. Is there an equivalent command? I tried to search through the manual but wasn't able to find what I'm looking for.

Monitoring Switch N2048 - GlobalStatus 'non-critical'

$

Hi there,

I want to monitor my N2048 switch using centreon. To do so, I read, using SNMP, the GlobalStatus of the product (OID : .1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10895.3000.1.2.110.1). The status is 'non-critical' but I think it should be 'normal'. I assume it is due to the fact that the switch has only one power supply which makes OID envMonSupplyState.12 (.1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10895.3000.1.2.110.7.2.1.3.12) 'notPresent(5)'.

My questions are : Is there another MIB that would give me the real status of the switch ? Or should I just consider 'non-critical' as 'normal' ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks !

Stack between dell force10 S4810 and S4820

Hello,

I already have an infrastructure with two force10 S4810 units in stack and need to add a new unit to the stack.

Since only Force10 S4820 switches are in stock, is it possible to configure a stack using those 2 models (S4810 and S4820)?

M6220 - can't see MAC addresses

Hi everyone,

first of all, sorry for my English but I belive you would understand me. I already have mounted one m6220 switch, which is perfectly fine (on A1 slot). Question is how I can add another one? When I plug it to A2 slot I can't see internal MAC addresses (1-16 ports). I can only see one on gi1/0/17. Of course I configured ports identical like on first switch. Is there any trigger on M1000e to activate network traffic on second switch or I have to configure stack?

FX2 IO aggregator server-facing ports down

Dear all,

I'm new to Dell community. We have just setup our FX2 chassis. The issue is as follows: -

We have two FN410s IOA in the chassis.

We have connected port 11 & 12 on both IOA with 10G SFP+. The LAG 128 is up, but we see that not all the internal ports are up.

Ports 1,3,5,7 are up & reporting 10G speed, but 2,4,6,8 are down. Can you advise if this is the expected behaviour

thanks & Regards

All interfaces are "Detach" after reload on N4000

Hello,

On two N4064, with software versions N4000v6.2.0.5a06, N4000v6.2.7.2a11 & N4000v6.2.7.4a12, I can configure via CLI and I do an update of defaults configs (after factory-defaults) by a copy of my script to running-config or copy&paste in terminal. Then my switches are in working states without error.

If I put my configuration to startup-config and reload, switches do not warn me at boot time and accept configurations but they have all interfaces but OoB in "Detach" states. If I "hot-plug" a 2x40G or 4x10g sfp+ modules, it came with interface in normal state, then at reload, join other interfaces in same "Detach" state.

Someone here may have an idea to reattach those interfaces ?

Newbie needs help setting up a PowerConnect 6248 - How do I connect this green RS-232 Cable?

$

Sorry for the silly question. I am a newbie and I am stuck on the first step of setting up my PowerConnect 6248.

"Make sure that the switch console port is connected to a VT100 terminal or VT100 terminal emulator via the RS-232 cable."

I don't really know what this means. The unit came with a green cable that looks like a monitor cable on one end and a network cable on the other end. Can someone please tell me what I need to connect this to? I am guessing that one end connects to the back of the 6248...but what does the other end connect to?

I have a Dell PowerEdge R710 that I am trying to use to configure it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello. Is it possible to connect PowerConnect switch M8024 -k 10GbbE with IBM storewize V5030 with 4 Dell SFP+ to SFP+ 10GbE Copper Twinax Cable 3 m in same RACK.

Can there be problems with compatibility because of different vendors or should I use SFP+ modules with optical cables .

I would rather use copper cable than optical because everything is in same rack.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I have one Dell force 10 s4820t and few servers are connected to it with 10Gig cards. Model of card is Intel Corporation Ethernet Controller 10-Gigabit X540-AT2.

In every approx half an hour connection to all server goes away. I can see the logs that all ports goes down and comes up, downtime is of about 1sec or less then 1sec. but because of this down time my cluster stops and some files get corrupted.

Connection to all server goes down at once..  below are logs from my switch for ports

Syslog Question for N Series Switches

$

Hello,

I've set up logging to a syslog server on my N2000 series switches. One thing that I've noticed is that the originating "Host IP Address" field contains a dash and then a number within each message. For instance, if the IP address is 2.3.4.5 the "Host IP Address" field in the message will come as "2.3.4.5-1" (dash one is appended). I looked through the CLI reference guide and it seems that this is by design - the example given in the Syslog syntax section shows "0.0.0.0-1" as the example for "Host IP Address".

Can anyone tell me what the " -1 " means? Some messages come through as "X.X.X.X-2" or "X.X.X.X-3", up to around 6. It seems like the numbers could be loosely correlated with the number of units in each stack, although I have some 8-member stacks that generate log files only up to "-6".

The reason I want to know is because our syslog server files/organizes the messages by hostname, so if my switch is called "ThirdFloor" I now have folders for "ThirdFloor-1" and "ThirdFloor-2", all the way up to "ThirdFloor-6", each with logs from different dates.

At first I thought it might be the number of the stack member that the log pertains to, but we get logs from, say, "ThirdFloor-6" relating to interface "Gi4/0/21" (so the host has -6 appended, but the log relates to a port on the 4th stack member) so I don't think that's it. Now I'm thinking it might be the stack master at the time the message was sent, since most logs are coming from "-1" or "-2" and these are typically the master/backup units in our stacks. But in this case, I don't understand why messages are coming from all six or seven stack members at all... without any major changes or reboots, shouldn't the master and backup units stay relatively static?

So, I'm at a loss. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

How do I connect a N3048P to multiple Force 10 S4810 for redundancy?

$

OK I cannot seem to get this to work. I am trying to connect a N3048P to two S4810 switches. One I try it seems to lose connection. I have a couple n3048P stacks that I have connected to the same S4810 switches for redundancy without issue. I am not sure what is different with these switches. All I can think of is that only one port is being used on each of the stack members to connect to the s4810 switches.  eg. Stack1 SW1 goes to TOR1 and Stack1 Sw2 gores to TOR2.

I have one of the 10Gb ports on the N3048P connected to one of the ports of the S4810 switch. That works fine. The S4810 switches are connected together using VLT.

What I originally did was connect port 1 of the N3048P to a port on the S4810 switch. Then assigned it a port channel of 108.  I then connected port 2 of the N3048P to a port on the second S4810 switch and assigned it to a port channel of 108.

Would that be correct?

Replacement of an M8024-K stack member....

$

I have 3rd party support on my M1000e chassis, and I have a pair of M8024-K switches that are stacked.  One has failed (DMA errors, and reboots, looping...)   I'm being shipped a new switch blade.  Question:  What is involved in a replacement?    The master "Mgmt Switch" is still up and healthy, and holds a good config.   I'm guessing such as:

1.) Switch is inserted, and an automatic firmware upgrade is done, to match the Master.   What if a downgrade is necessary to bring the OS of the new switch down to the level of the current Master?  This will automatically reboot the switch (or the whole stack) when complete?

2.)the config will then be sync'ed after the OS is at the proper level, I'm thinking.  --this will require a second reboot (of the new switch, or the whole stack)?

We're just wondering how much downtime may be needed in order to get the new switch inserted, get the OS sync'ed and the config sync'ed....

I cannot connect to multicast stream with N2024

$

I have the following scenario:

One Powerconnect N2024P switch with firmware 6.2.0.5
One small router multicast that sends a multicast stream if it have a client subscribed.
One VLC client.
The configuration of the switch is very basic, all in VLAN 1:

!System Description "Dell Networking N2024P, 6.2.0.5, Linux 3.6.5-1289203e"

ip igmp snooping vlan 1 mrouter interface Gi1/0/4
ip igmp snooping querier
ip igmp snooping querier address 10.137.255.1
ip igmp snooping querier vlan 1
ip igmp snooping querier vlan 1 address 10.137.255.1
ip igmp snooping querier election participate 1

The problem:

If the VLC client connect to the router directly I can see the multicast stream.
If I put the switch between the client and the router stops the multicast stream.

The router manufacturer says that the router need to receive the IGMP multicast stream subscription packet  (igmp report stream 224.11.0.1) to send the stream

How do I need to configure the switch to IGMP packet reaches the router?

Thank you

Force10 MXL - m1000e chassis - A Fabric - Arp or Mac issue - erroneous and not passing local traffic

$

We've got a new m1000e chassis manufactured in 2014 with an A and B fabric consisting of Force10 MXL, dual QSFP+ daughter card.  The chassis is loaded with a new set of M630 that has Broadcom dual 10G ports for the B Fabric and the similar Quad port cards for the A Fabric.  We also have a pair of s4810's dedicated for Front End IP traffic and another pair dedicated to iSCSI only.  FE/IP switches are on the B Fabric and iSCSI dedicated to the A Fabric.  We also have several new PS6610 arrays (S/X) which is dedicated to this infrastructure.

The problem we're having is that NO blades seem to be able to pass traffic over the A Fabric internally.  So I can't pass basic switch traffic between blades on the A Fabric MXL.  I CAN however pass traffic from my VLAN interface on the MXL to the iSCSI switches, Storage Arrays, Internet traffic and vice versa.  But I can not pass any traffic from the Blades or to the blades from any other interface.  Our B Fabric functions just fine.  Same code versions on both Fabric MXL's.  Both QSFP+ daughter cards.  This is baffling.

What I'm seeing, is arp entries which don't match up to their local corresponding mac entries on the MXL TenGig interface.  So if I look at Slot1, port te0/1 (first port on the quad card), it's MAC address looks proper, however it's ARP address is different and more importantly, the other corresponding interfaces also have the same ARP address.  I CAN ping only the first port on the quad card but still, my true MAC address isn't represented in the ARP tables.

As an FYI - this is a base CentOS install.  We've tried multiple other Linux distributions and M600 and M610 blades with different network cards yet have the exact same results.  I've performed all the upgrades I can perform but I thought I'd turn to the community as I can't find ANY information out there and I also can't believe I'm the only person who has encountered this config/setup/problem.  We do have support working with us but this is a SLOW moving process.

Way to automate SSH connection/commands on a series of PowerConnect Switches, 3400 3500 and 6200 series.

$

I am attempting to figure out a way to automate commands to send out to a series of switches (around 20) showing certain configs and saving the output to a file. The way I was attempting to do this was by using plink and creating a batch file for it.

Essentially it would consist of something similar to the following.

echo

for /f %%i in (devices.txt) do plink %%i -l USERNAME -pw PASSWORD -v -m C:\Batch\commands.txt >> output.txt

To break down the above command, it looks for my ips in the devices.txt, and does a "plink IP -l USERNAME -pw PASSWORD -v -m COMMANDS >> OUTPUT" for each. The problem I'm running into is the switches wont accept the logins, they constantly prompt for user and password again. Even when attempting to put those into the commands.txt it will not accept the input. I've googled using plink with dell switches but there isn't anything talking about this issue.

So my question is, is there a way to automate this type of thing in a batch file? Or some way to automate running a series of commands to a switch via SSH? I just don't wan't to have to manually connect to each one, run my commands, exit, reconnect and repeat. I've done this on cisco switches so I thought the process would be similar but I don't understand what obstacle I'm running into here. Ideally I would like to see how to do this via SSH but at this point I'm willing to accept almost any (secure) alternative to automating sending commands to my switches.

Hopefully this all makes sense.
