Dell PowerConnect 2848 CLI limitation

Is there any way to manage 2848 via telnet?

Can i change vlan membership via cli? It`s easy on 6848, but command list looks so poor on 2848.

The problem is that i exclude all ports from default vlan and can`t connect to switch via web interface, only via com port.

Best regards,

Popov Viktor.

Dell PowerConnect 5548P VLANS

Hi,

Our company acquired 3 units of 5548P to be configure in our office.

I managed to do the first setup like assigning an ID Stack Number & IP address on it so that I can access it via WEB GUI.

The configurations are:

192.168.1.96

255.255.255.0

192.168.1.1

My question here is, if what I did is correct cause our routers IP Address is 192.168.1.99 where the 5548P is connected.

Then my next problem is to put 5 VLANS on it cause our router is having 5 VLANS which is VLAN1~VLAN5 but we wanted for now that the ports will be broadcasting VLAN3.

I wanted to learn how to do this on the WEB GUI cause I'm not familiar on using CLI.

Thanks in Advance...

Thanks & Regards,

Emerson

Hi,

Thanx in Advance.

I have two Dell Power connect 6224 switches which is stacked.

6 Tagged Vlan traveling in single  Fiber Cable which is terminated at our switch with Ethernet cable on port no 21.

I put the this port in General Mode and allowed and tagged with vlan 970-975

I have one dell Dell Power edge 620 server, 6 Virtual machine installed in it. Each machine only access with it's respective vlan.

But is not working.  virtual machine is not able to ping.

I asked to our service provider who is giving us FIber link. he siad u need to create 6 virtual interface and assign ip address to each interface.

Is it possible to create 6 virtual interface in this switch. if yes, so what is command for that????? and any other configuration  need to do except creating virtual interface??????

Upgrade of PowerConnect 3524P to 3548P - migrate configuration question

$

I need to migrate from a Powerconnect 3524P switch to a 3548P switch to increase our port density.

My one question:  I'm sure I can just backup the config from the old switch and bring it in  using TFTP.  However, the switch is configured for several VLANs.  If I migrate the config, does it just keep the VLANs configured for the first 24 ports so I just need to move the cables over, and then I can configure the remaining 24 ports at my leisure, or is there anything else I need to take into account?

Can't update firmware PC 6224

Hi,

Power Connect 6224 firmware 3.3.7.3.

I'd like to upgrade to 3.3.10.3; I followed the upgrade procedure by copy tftp://my_tftp_serv/PC6200v3.3.10.3.stk image

The copy ended with no error, but sh ver returns both image1 and image2 the same (3.3.7.3).

I tried to upgrade by http interface with same result, no-error but can't see anywhere the 3.3.10.3 version.

What's wrong ?

Thank's.

Regards.

High CPU for ipMapForwardingTask

I have a problem with Powerconnect 6248, which appeared recently. Time from time CPU for ipMapForwardingTask rises up to 30-40% instead of normal operation (average 6%) and PINGs to switch raises from 1ms to 50-100ms. Logs show nothing. It last from several dozens seconds to minutes. Then it goes back to its normal stage, but after few hours (or less) repeats again. What could be the reason? Current FW 3.3.1.10

PowerConnect 5448, How to make all physical ports trunk, and allow all VLAN tags to pass through transparently

$

I'd like to accomplish such a goal, make all 5448 switch ports acts like "trunk", that is, just like an entry level switch. Yes, I want all VLAN tags to pass through transparently.

Let me explain it more clearly. If

  • PC1 with MAC1 is connected on switch port 1(port 1 for short), PC2 with MAC2 is connected on port 2,
  • PC1 sends out an ethernet packet with vlanid=30 VLAN tag,

I want the ethernet packet to be forwarded to port 2 without any modification, that is, PC 2 will receive the packet with exactly the same packet bytes as PC1 sends.

Currently, I want to configure all switch ports to act like this, but how to do this? Any one can tell me the most concise CLI commands to accomplish this? or, can it be done via web interface?

I have to complain again about the poor manual, who talks about this concept and that concept again and again(so many ambiguous statements although the manual author does not realize it),  BUT does not explain them at packet-content level, so I'm totally at a loss.

I've tried it from web interface. Simply set port 1 and 2 to Access mode or General mode does not work.

Please help me out. Thank you in advance.

Switch N2048 vs PowerConnect 6248

Hello

I'd like to ask the professional.

For our company internal servers communication, what switch more powerful N2048 or PC6248?

We would like to use just Team ports, LAG. No VLANs, no routing. Just "layer 2".

Thanks.

Dell 6248 Find port of IP address

Hi, I use a Dell 6248 switch and I want to switch vlan of a particular device but I don't know on which port this device is connected. How can I find this information without having to physically go to the switch.

I don't know if it matter or not but the dell switch is not the master switch doing the routing.

Dell S4810 managemet interface gatewat configuration

Hi,

I have one very basic Question. We have Dell Force10 S4810 switch for quite some time. We were not able to set the gateway address in the switch though ip address can be set on the management interface. Everytime we tried to set the gateway, it threw error " Inconsistent address and mask." We kept the switch like that for a year. But I have decided to ask this to Dell forum. How your customers are handling the situation? Why such an essential config is kept difficult to configure??

This is the command syntax:

Force10(conf)#management route 172.16.27.0 /20 172.16.16.1
% Error: Inconsistent address and mask.

Management interface I set for the switch is : 172.16.27.102 Netmask 255.255.240.0

Gateway I want to configure is: 172.16.16.1

Thanks for your help and explanation.

6248 VLAN configuration - Bind IP Subnet to VLAN

$

We have 200 node network with no vlans (small private company which grew quickly)

All nodes / devices/ PCs etc spread evenly over 6 Dell 5448 switches with no regard for department, location nor use.

(1) L3 is 6248 - We have added 6248 to route VLANs (everything is on VLAN 1 still - i.e. no tagging)

(2) L2 multiple VLANs per switch - Best case, 2 vlans per 5448

(3) Trunk / General uplink from L2 5448s using LAG (ports 44, 45) - expected to have all tagged traffic but since this will be a conversion / migration on a 24x7 ecommerce network, we thought we would have to make the uplinks between 5548s and 6248 General and change to Trunk later

(4) during conversion, all trunk/general uplinks will have multiple tagged vlans as well as untagged vlan1 traffic

(5) We know we should set each VLAN gateway IP to the 6248 IP address servicing the VLAN, but can't decide how to do this with no one-to-one match of VLAN to uplink LAG

Questions on 6248

Q1: would we use "Bind IP Subnet to VLAN" on the 6248 to setup the routing between VLANs or do we have to set VLAN membership per LAG ?

Q2: would we expect to be able to ping the VLAN gateway IP configured in the 6248 from a down link host / node / PC tagged for the same VLAN ?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Prevent Accessing 7024 Switch from routed ip addresses

$

Hi,

I have a lot of vlans, my 7024 Switch is routing. Each of these vlans has a configured IP address, acting as Gateway IP in the specific networks.

I can access webserver and console on every network at these ip addresses. How can i stop it?

I've tried setting a management ACL, that can only access https and ssh from defined IP addresses in a specific vlan. But all of my vlans are trunkated through the uplink ports (my workstation connects through a PC2848 with a specific tagged vlan and this switch serves 4 vlans that are trunkated through sfp uplink to the 7024) and i have a lot of hits on macl.

MACL Trace: Mismatch on rule 1. Rule interface vlan2, ingress interface vlan102.

MACL Trace: Packet does not pass MACL => drop (true violation).

Number of packets denied by management ACLs = 1076629

When macl is activated, CPU Usage is growing up to 60%

I've also tried to add deny rules to the inbound ACLs

(access-list in102 deny any 192.168.102.254 0.0.0.0)

But for some reason i could access the switch on those IPs, that are trunkated to the 2848.

I don't know, whats going on there.

Is there any possibility to deactivate the webserver/console on these IP addresses?

The Firmware Version on the 7024 is 5.0.1.3

Thank You

Florian

Auto VoIP session limit

$

According to the release notes for the 3.3.5.5 firmware for our PowerConnect 6248 switch that we are planning to have connected to employee desks' power injected Aastra 6xxx IP phones, "There is a limitation of 16 Auto VOIP sessions."

Does that mean that I can have 16 VoIP sessions at most and that the 17th VoIP phone unit will not have the voice VLAN tag applied to port nor have the CoS applied to the traffic coming from the 17th phone?

Also, for a PowerConnect 5448 running 2.0.0.46, is there such a limitation of Auto VOIP sessions? The release notes do not indicate it.

XG stacking port for VLANs

$

I have 3 Powerconnect 6200's currently stacked.  I'm having some lost packets and I think it might be related to the stacking configuration.  Currently the XG ports have no port config on them at all.  I assume that means they are in access mode for the Default VLAN 1.  I've been reading through the guides and posts and it seems that the current config isn't correct and probably only the default VLAN of 1 is actually traveling through there correctly and that everything else is getting routed to and from the firewall.  At least thats my working theory.  I'm a little confused on the "proper" setup for the XG ports though....

To get that setup correctly I think I need to combine the XG ports into a LAG, change the XG port config to general mode and allow the appropriate VLANS with a PVID for VLAN1?  Does that sound correct?  Also, is there any outages or "blips" when I do that, I unfortunately live 1.5 hours from the core stack.

New router not recognizing devices on Dell PowerConnect 2716 switch

My Windows 7 Workgroup is set up as follows.  Incoming Internet is directly connected to a Linksys router which in turn is connected to a Dell PowerConnect 2716 switch running in unmanaged mode.  I have four Windows 7 machines and a Buffalo NAS device connected to the switch.   I also have two Windows 7 laptops using the wireless connection.   I’m upgrading the router to a Netgear N600 WNDR3400v3.  When I swap out the router, it appears as though the Netgear device is not recognizing the switch.  The wireless Windows 7 devices can access the internet but can’t see any of the computers or NAS connected to the switch.  The devices connected to the switch can see each other but can’t access the internet.  LED indicators on both router and switch look normal.  Any advice on troubleshooting the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Dell62xx VOIP component error: VoipPktIntercept(): message send failed

$

We have several Dell 6224 and 6248 switches running 3.2.1.3 through 3.3.9.1 firmware that occasionally experience poor performance all at once.

When this happens, there is an info message that repeats three times per second in the buffer log: component VOIP -  VoipPktIntercept(): message send failed.    While this is happening pings to the management IP for layer 3 switches are over 500ms and over 50ms non-routing switches.

The error does not resolve by unplugging all the devices from the ports.  The only way to correct the issue is to reload the switch.

Auto VOIP mode is disabled.  Some switches have never experienced the issue while others have the issue often.

I feel that some type of traffic that may be causing this but I do not know where to start or how to more gracefully mitigate the issue.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Kurt
